WISENHEIMER OF THE WEEK

Q: What is the difference between a new husband and a new dog?

A: After a year, the dog is still excited to see you.

Client Patch 3.0.6m
We are targeting to release a client patch today at approximately 11:30am CST. For a detailed list of changes that will be included in this update, see http:\\update.uo.com\design_404.html. Once the patch has been released, the changes will be moved to Latest Game Updates.

The current version should be 3.0.6m for both the 2D and 3D clients.

If you have any difficulty receiving this patch, please check the following:
Check the "Patch" directory within your Ultima Online directory (the default location is C:\\Program Files\Ultima Online\Patch). This directory should be empty. Any files in this directory should be deleted.
If you are unable to connect to the patch server at all, and are using an original (Non-T2A) version of Ultima Online, you may need to update your verinfo file. For details on updating this file, please see the information posted at http:\\support.uo.com\tech_6.html.
Run a virus scan on your computer. Undetected viruses may cause conflicts with patching Ultima Online. For information on up-to-date virus detection software, please visit http:\\www.mcafee.com\myapps\vso\default.asp.
Scenario Publish Next Week
The final week (Week 3) of the scenario publish was scheduled to go live this week, but in order to make sure that both it and the next client patch are working as intended, we'll be releasing it to Lake Superior early next week, to be followed later in the week by the remaining shards.

We'll let you know once we have the final schedule for next week!
Known Issue: Co-Owner Status Not Removed
There is an issue currently with co-owner status not being removed from players once they are removed as a co-owner from a house, which is causing players to not be eligible to become co-owner to a new house. We are aware of this, and are working to solve it as soon as possible. In the meantime, GMs can and will assist players in fixing this on an individual basis.

Our only request is that players please include the error message in their tells (such as, "It says status not removed?"). This will enable our GMs to diagnose and solve the problem much more quickly. Thank you!
Barding Feedback Wanted
An issue that’s been one of the most popular on the boards ever since most of us can remember is the Barding skill. If Barding is something that’s important to you, head on over to the Barding Forum now, where Designer Vex is looking for ideas on new abilities players would be interested in seeing added to the Barding profession. Vex posted the following to kickoff the thread:

"Howdy!

"I'm looking for some feedback of a very specific type. What I would like to see posted on this thread are brief posts of ideas for new Bard abilities.

"Please, just post ideas. This thread isn't a poll, and not the place to discuss issues with bards. Please don't debate others' ideas here. I'm just looking for interesting new ideas for bard abilities.

"The ideas I am most interested in seeing here are those that don't duplicate abilities already in the game. For instance, buffs and debuffs already exist in of potions and spells. So -- what new abilities could be given to bards that would be unique and different? Let's see some brainstorming!"

You can find the discussion thread here. Happy brainstorming!
Seeking Tales of Love in the Big Apple
Do you live in the tri-state area of New York?
Did you meet someone special through UO that resulted in a real life love story?

If you answered ‘yes’ to both questions, then we’d like to hear from you! We’re seeking stories from couples, specifically those around the Manhattan area, who met through UO and forged relationships that ultimately blossomed into real life romance. Tell us how you met your love, what attracted you to them, and how your feelings eventually transcended the fiction of Ultima Online.

Send your story as an email, with a screenshot or a real life picture attached, to uo-profiles@uo.com by Tuesday, February 5th. Please be sure your story falls between 500-1000 words, and include "Love in the Big Apple" in your subject line. The screenshot should be in bitmap format, and 640x480 resolution. Please provide a name and phone number for verification of the story. Submissions to "uo-profiles" become the property of OSI and may be used for special events, promotions, and/or advertising. All submissions must be made by the original author and are subject to verification.
Sound Crash Update
It looks like the underlying cause for the "sound crash" issue that some players have been experiencing since the December 21st patch may have been successfully identified. The following information was posted to the Connectivity and Tech board:

"After a great deal of investigation, we've come to the conclusion that the primary cause of the "sound crash" some players began experiencing after the December 21st patch was the result of certain hardware/software configurations corrupting the new streaming audio (MP3) data and gradually causing the system to hang.

"Thanks to a lot of help from players who were experiencing the problem, we've found a fix that has helped everyone who's tried it: Installing the Live!Ware 3.0 software that comes on the installation CDs for SB Live! cards. This software installs a variety of utilities, but the key files are UpDDrv98.exe/UpDDrv95.exe. (One user ran those by themselves and also saw the sound crashes immediately stop.)

"This software can also be downloaded from:

- Windows 95/98 (Be sure to download the complete package)

"Our contact at Creative Labs' Developer support recommends that users with Windows XP/2000 use these drivers.

"If you have been experiencing this frustrating problem, please install the Live!Ware 3.0 software and let us know how it works for you."

Thanks to Tajima for the information!
Scenario Publish Delayed
In our scenarios, we strive to create new and challenging creatures and encounters for our players, and the upcoming Meer Eternals should certainly be a challenge. However, our testers have found that the Meer Eternals currently have an unanticipated sooper-dooper-secret attack skill of crashing the client. Since this is a bit more of a challenge than we were originally hoping for, the current week of the scenario will be delayed by a day or two (just long enough for us to release a client patch that will put these Meer Eternals back into their place).
Spotlight Submission Deadline Extended
The deadline for spotlight submissions for the "In-Game Accomplishments" topic was originally set for today, but without email, and without psychic abilities, there's really no good way to judge them at this time. So we're pushing back the deadline until next Friday for now. Keep writing those stories, and we'll be sure to make an elated post once our mail is back up, letting you know it's time to send them on in!
Baekdu and Mugen now available on MyUO
The Baekdu and Mugen shards are now accessible through MyUO, meaning that faction and guild info is now available, as well as character searches for those shards.
Test Center 4 live for FanFest attendees
Players with the UO: LBR CD from the FanFest can now log in to Test Center 4 to test out Lord Blackthorn's Revenge at home!We would also like to ask that any bugs found while playing UO: LBR on Test Center 4 be reported to tcbugs@uo.com. When submitting a bug report, please remember to include the following information:
Your UO account name (do not include your password)
The time, date, shard, and facet of the occurrence
What steps you took that led up to the bug
Whether or not you tried to repeat the bug, and if you succeeded
Players without the UO: LBR CD can still log in to Test Center 4, but won't be able to access Ilshenar with the 2D client and won't see the new art.

Thanks, and happy playing!
Ignatz Joins the World of Ongoing Content!
UO's Ongoing Scenarios have become an integral part of UO this last year, and now another designer is getting a chance to get his hands dirty in the episodic fiction! We'll let Calandryll (current Lead Content Designer) give a quick introduction... (from the Scenarios and Ongoing Content Board)

"Just a quick note to let you know that I've been given the opportunity to work on another aspect of UO so I won't be handling the scenarios anymore. Ignatz (some of you may know him better as Twilight) will be heading up the scenario team, which should be a great role for him since he spent over two years creating and designing Interest events (when he starts posting, be sure to ask him about the time he accidentally slayed himself while running a quest). And of course, Augur and Gromm will continue to be on the team, so you can continue to look forward to their work (and Gromm's fiction!) for some time to come."

Maybe we can get some more info on that slaying when we rope Ignatz in for a Comments from the Team soon...
FanFest UO: LBR CD and Test Center 4 Update
For those of you holding onto your UO:LBR CDs from the Fan Event, the time is coming soon to log in to Test Center 4 and give it a try!

We're hoping to bring Test Center 4 live within the next couple days, so be sure to come back tomorrow to see the latest news. Remember that this is a final beta test, so be sure to report any bugs you find to tcbugs@uo.com.

Once Test Center 4 is made live, anyone without the UO:LBR can log in as well, but will not see anything different, and will not be able to access Ilshenar in the 2D client.
A Note on Scam Prevention
Just a word to the wise...

If you’re trading with someone, make sure the trade stays simple. If someone gives you a check in return for another item, don’t let them give it to you in a bag or container. There’s no reason they can’t just put the check in the secure trade window... and if they insist otherwise, then something’s wrong. Likewise, don’t let a player hand you bags to hold right before a trade. If there’s extra and unneeded steps being requested in a trade, ask them to keep it simple. You give them an item, and they give you payment. If simple isn’t an option, find another trade!
First Look at New 3D Art
We've just released some screenshots of the new 3D art coming into UO, and we're getting great feedback already! Check out the links below to get a look.

A selection of new female faces (Important note! In the game, the art files consist of only half a face, which is then used on both sides of the head. For the purpose of this screenshot, we just duplicated the face halves and put them together flat so you can get an idea of the different face styles.)

Jalek (client programmer) also addressed a few questions on the new art:

Q: What about the big eyes? Did you go for the anime look to sell the game in Asian countries?

A: Big eyes have always been used to show expression more easily...especially if you aren't up close to the character (which in TD you won't be). :) This could be used for possible future facial expression work and in any case make the eyes stand out more so you don't see 2 dark pits where the eyes are.

Q: Is this exactly how the new avatar will look?

A: This is preliminary work. We don't know how much and what will be changed if anything, but all the comments we've gotten are GREAT feedback.

Q: Will the male art be improved too?

A: Yes, the male looks MUCH better. ;)

Q: So we get to choose our faces in 3D... does this mean that current characters will be able to change their faces? Or does this only apply to new characters?

A: Actually, that is undecided at this time. We are looking at different ways of possibly doing it, but, I don't think I can safely comment any further than that.

We're really looking forward to the new artwork being implemented in the Third Dawn client, but it still needs ample testing time! This means that even though the artwork is on the UO: LBR CD, it may not actually be activated on the servers at the exact time that UO: LBR ships. Look for it to be active on the UO servers shortly after (we'll be able to give a better estimate of when that will be once we're a little closer to the ship date).

Stay tuned for a look at the new 3D male avatar art in the near future!
UO party comming up - SOON?
The annual uo xmas party got canseled this year (2001) but since its already a tradition, were planning a small get together this spring.
So far theres been talk of an easter thing, but nothing has been settled yet.
Were looking into it tho, and will keep you posted on further developments.
FlakeTown sold *sniff*
So it finally happened. My dear home(s) throughout the last year or more has been sold.
Its not something i rejoice about, but fortunately for me, most of the houses ended up in the hands of good friends, so i can always go visit if the homesickness gets too unbearable *sniff*.
Im currently staying in a keep in Tram, which isn't really to my liking...too much damn lag.
Ill search for something similar in Fel, as i was "borne and raised" there, but for now im a Trammelit *yuk*
FlakeTown for sale
As a 2 year birthday gift for myself, I have decided to sell FlakeTown.
The reason for this is because my dedication to UO isn't what it used to be and therefore I see no reason to pay for 6 acc a month.
Im moving to Trammel into something bigger. I would have preferred to stay in Felucca, BUT big houses are hard to come by today, so I had to take what I could get.

Update about FlakeTown and WRZ when all of this is over and done with.

Added a few more weird screen shots and the pictures from Tank & Znowstorms wedding.
Still waiting for my "cowtoon maker" to send me a new story which, knowing him, could take a while.
 Wedding
Once again people are invited to a wedding involving one of my chars. This time (which will be the last I hope) its Znowstorm that is getting married to Tank.
The wedding takes place Sunday the 18th of November at 8 pm gmt in Felucca, and people will be gated to the location of the wedding ½ an hour before from Vesper bank.
