The House of Representatives

To be a Representative in the House, you must:

The Senate

  • Terms of Office: 6 years (Elections for 1/3 the Senate held every 2 years)
  • Head of Senate: President of the Senate (Vice President)
  • Method of Representation: States get 2 representatives each
  • Special Purpose: Acts as Jury in Impeachment trials To be a Representative in the House, you must:
    • Be at least 30 years old
    • Have been a US citizen for at least 9 years
    • Live in the state that elected you

    Terms to Know

      Impeach-
      to accuse an elected official of wrongdoing or misuse of power
      Revenue-
      Money collected by the Government
      Elastic Clause-
      States that Congress may do anything that is "Necessary and Proper to carry out its duties
      Congressional Record-
      Public record of all Congress sessions
      Commerce-
      trade
      Congressional Immunity-
      immunity granted to members of Congress that states that members may not :
      • be arrested going to or from sessions, and
      • may not be sued for anything said during a session.
