He leaned back in his chair propping his feet up on his large mahogany desk not caring about the papers that crumpled under the weight of his feet. He smiled a bit as he thought how undignified he looked with his feet propped up as his chair tilted almost all the way back. Luna would have a fit. He ran a hand through his already tousled lavender hair. His thoughts tumbled back over the events of the day before. Rei had spoken to no one all day. Serenity had done much the same leaving the remaining Senshi to wonder just what had happened in the throne room the day before. Endymion knew what he had to do he just dreaded the thought. He sighed heavily glancing around his elaborate office. Well it was now or never. He picked himself up out of the chair and headed for the West Wing. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Rei sat staring at nothing but at something. Those eyes. So filled with regret, sorrow, and no he couldn't still love her. It was impossible! Then why is he here her traitor heart whispered? She jumped up. She had to do something! She walked over to the window and pushed away the scarlet drapes. She saw Makoto saddling her favorite horse. Yes that's an idea. She'd go outside. Get some fresh air. Maybe that would keep her mind off him. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Makoto placed a saddle over the broad back of her horse Constellation. She ran her hand over his smooth black coat that was flecked with white. She gathered a handful of pure white mane and swung up placing her feet in the stirrups. " Let's go boy," she whispered in one of his velvety ears. They were off at a good trot flying over the green hills that surrounded the Crystal Palace. Makoto's mind wandered going back to the time this glorious place had been created. After Serenity had awoken the Earth and cleansed it's people most of the countries had handed over leadership to her separating the world into four sections aptly named the North, South, East, and West countries with Crystal Tokyo as the center. The crime rate was extremely low and world hunger was completely eliminated. The few criminals remaining were cleansed with the crystal or if they refused were exiled. The Earth was free of pollution and all the rainforests had been miraculously restored. The people were content. Makoto came out of her reminiscing as she caught something move in the bushes near by. She pulled up on her reins and Constellation came to a smooth stop. Her quick eyes searched the greenery. Finding nothing she urged her horse into a walk. " I wonder when Haruka and Michiru will be back?" she mumbled to herself. Their diplomatic mission was more of a vacation really. They probably wouldn't be back at least for another few weeks. Her head snapped towards a row of low bushes as she heard a twig snap. She halted her horse and dismounted. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Ami sighed and stretched placing her book by her side and straightening her bathing suit top. The sun blazed down with a fierce intensity making her glad for the shade of the umbrella that she and Minako had set up. Where was Minako anyway? Ami sat up looking around shielding her eyes from the glare of the sun reflecting of the crystal clear lake. Oh well she thought not catching sight of her golden haired friend. Say lay back down picking up her book. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* He had been walking out in the large area around the palace and had stumbled upon this small lake. It was beautiful here. Half the lake was surrounded by an expanse of pure white sand the other half was shrouded by steep rocks and thick forest. He settled under a tree content. And then her caught sight of her and he thought his heart was going to burst right out of his chest. She brushed a lock of shimmering gold hair out of her eyes and continued walking around the steep rocky edge that hung over the lake. She was so beautiful. He wanted to declare his presence. Go to her beg for forgiveness. He curbed his impulses and retreated thicker into the trees. Minako hummed to herself as she danced over the rocks. Her balance was superb and she had no fear of falling. She glanced out toward the lake spotting the Ami's blue umbrella. Her blue eyes suddenly focused on one of the trees nearby. Was there someone standing under it? She went closer her sharp eyes searching the underbrush. Had she seen him? He hoped not. He wasn't ready for a confrontation no matter what his heart was telling him. He hid behind a large tree. Minako was so intent on watching the trees that she didn't see that the rock in front of her was covered by a slimy moss. She stepped forward peering into the trees. As her foot slipped out from under her she let out a scream as she plummeted downward towards the water and sharp rocks below. Kunzite's heart stopped and Ami lifted her head from her book. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Makoto walked toward the bushes cautiously. There was something in there. She pushed aside the branches. " Ahhgh," she screamed as a huge dog jumped onto her slobbering all over face. Its chocolate drop eyes begging that she pet it. She laughed at herself for being so paranoid. It was only a dog nothing else. Probably one of Hotaru's. But a voice nagged at the back of her mind that there had been something or someone else in those bushes. She shrugged it off remounted and rode towards the castle dog trailing behind her. She didn't look back but if she would've she would have seen a pair of emerald eyes staring out from the bushes at her retreating back. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Kunzite didn't hesitate as he saw Minako fall. He raced toward the place where he had seen her hit the rocks and water. Ami also ran at top speed as soon as she figured out what had happened but Kunzite was closer and he got there first. Kunzite dove under the water searching the clear water for any trace of her. He caught a glimpse of gold out of the corner of his eye. The gold heart locket around her neck was reflecting off the sunlight. She still wears it after all these years he thought to himself. He grabbed her unconscious body and brought her to the surface. On the shore a shell shocked Ami stood her hand covering her mouth and her blue eyes wide. She glanced at Kunzite and then at Minako who had a large gash on the side of her head. For one second she was frozen in place. She shook her head. Snap out of it Ami. Minako needs help! Think about him later. She said to herself. Ami's vision focus and she saw Kunzite lying Minako gently on the ground brushing her blood soaked bangs out of her eyes. Ignoring Kunzite, Ami began examining Minako's wounds. She was still unconscious. " We must get her to the palace," Ami said. " Can you carry her?" Ami asked acknowledging Kunzite for the first time. Kunzite nodded his head grief showing through his eyes. Oh God if anything happened to her he would die. Again. This was his fault. All his fault. Her gently picked her up cradling her. He started towards the palace as fast as he could go. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Endymion turned the corner that led to the area were the General's were staying. Suddenly a frenzied servant slammed into him almost knocking him over. "Umphh," Endymion grunted. " What's the hurry?" " Oh Your Majesty. I'm so sorry but Lady Minako was just brought in with a serious head injury and I was supposed to go find the Queen and…" the servant trailed off as he watched the King's retreating back running down the hallway.
