The Author, Shalom ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Only Time will Tell She stared through the glass cringing at each incision it had been a bad idea for her to watch this a very bad idea, but he looked so she tried to fixate on his face and not the bloody mess sprawled out a few inches below. She held her baby close to her and smiled “Look.” Chiba Usagi said as she pointed through the glass, “Their making daddy all better.” Usagi swallowed as she said that trying to her tears back. She sighed Minako came up and put a hand on her shoulder. “Everything’s going to be fine you’ll see.” Usagi smiled “Thanks Minako-chan for coming with me.” “No problem.” Minako said smiling. She took Usagi’s hand and gave it a small squeeze of reassurance. Usagi turned her attention to the operating room again she stared at his face, the monitors, and at the doctors. She decided she needed to take a walk to do something, anything at that moment she just needed to get out of that stuffy hospital and painful memories. “I’m going to take a walk.” She handed baby Chibi-usa over to Minako. “OK, Usagi-chan.” Minako said a bit puzzled. As Usagi walked out of the building it had begun to snow she kept on walking but soon began to run faster and faster. Her feet hit the cement with a hard thud. She now kept her hair up in two tight buns on the side of her head. She took those out as she ran her heavy pink winter coat made her look like a kid again with her pigtails down and flowing back. She was angry, she ran and ran until she was out of breath. She sat down on a bench, she had reached a nearby park. She seemed so much older now that stress had over come her, but it had changed her she was strong or she used to be she just didn’t know anymore. The snow had stopped by the time she trudged back to the hospital she had become extremely cold. The operation was over with by the time she got back. The senshi sat in the waiting room quietly Usagi quietly passed them as she headed to Mamoru’s room. She felt so terrible she had quit college as she walked into the door of Mamoru’s room she remembered his words... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Usako I can’t let you do this..” He looked down at her with his soft features and gave him a hug “We’re going to beat this together.” Usagi said she was serious with a look of determination she also looked as if she was about to cry. Mamoru didn’t argue he just gave her a kiss “We’re going to beat this....together.” He whispered in her ear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Usagi sat by Mamoru’s bed holding his hand she knew every detail of his face. Which was now blocked by various tubes. He probably wouldn’t wake up for a few hours, but she stayed by his bedside. Rei came in “Usagi are you OK? Do you need anything?” Her voice sounded a little frightened. Rei who was always so stubborn and sure of herself now seemed afraid everyone seemed different “It had changed people Usagi though to herself.” Ami had become a little less concentrated on her work to become a doctor. Mina seemed a little less cheery... Let’s just say Makoto had burned more than one batch of cookies in the past few months. Hotaru was always silent she hardly said anything anymore she was just silent. Michiru and Haruka seemed to be in more and more fights. Setsuna was always calm she spent a lot of time just staring for no apparent reason she looked like she was thinking but truly Usagi didn’t know what was going through her mind... “Usagi” Rei said which called Usagi away from her thoughts “Oh, yeah Rei I’m fine.” Usagi took another sip of her coffee which surprisingly enough she didn’t even like until she found out about Mamoru it kept her awake, she needed that. She decided to go get something to eat from the hospital cafeteria. She noticed Motoki sitting at a table so she pulled up a chair across from him. Motoki was silent, unlike himself it looked as if he was almost in shock. They both understood what each other were feeling, the understood the silence between them. “How’s baby Chibi-usa?” Andrew asked finally Usagi smiled “She’s fine Makoto-chan’s watching her right now.” That was all that was said, soon Usagi had finished her meal so she got up to leave. “Usagi....” Motoki’s voice seemed far away “Take care” Motoki said. He had been like that ever since his fiance was killed in a car accident he seemed so empty inside and now he was loosing his best friend. Setsuna sat by Hotaru in the waiting room staring “Setsuna?” Hotaru asked the group became quiet she didn’t speak much so they were eager to hear what she had to say. “What-her lips quivered a bit-will happen if Mamoru dies?” Setsuna knew the answer that’s what she had been thinking about that’s what she knew that’s why she had been staring at the wall. She just sighed she didn’t try to explain but just shook her head Hotaru then to began staring at the wall. The group turned back to their activities Setsuna stood up and went to Mamoru’s room. Usagi sat down on one side of Mamoru’s bed holding his hand. Setsuna didn’t say anything she just sat down on the other side of him. Her dark red eyes seemed to lose focus for a second. hen she stared at Usagi then at Mamoru and then Usagi broke the silence. “What if...” She didn’t finish tears brimmed her eyes. Setsuna went over to Usagi and comforted her she seemed to snap out of her trance. Why Usagi had chosen Setsuna to let it all loose she didn’t know. What did Setsuna know about love what did any of them know about how she felt. She felt so alone, like no one understood her. Setsuna waited until Usagi calmed down before speaking. “It’s scary isn’t it?” “What?” Usagi asked as she whipped the tears from her eyes with her hands. “The loneliness.” Usagi didn’t reply she just stared up at Setsuna’s face suddenly she knew. Sure Setsuna loved Hotaru and Chibi-usa like they were her own but she had never experienced true love it was never meant to be for her. Usagi gasped “Setsuna..” Setsuna just shook her head in reply. With that she stood up and left. An hour or so later a nurse came in to change Mamoru’s IV bag as she closed the door behind her Usagi could hear her whispering to another nurse. “It’s sad really he’s only 25 and leaving his young wife and daughter here.” Usagi froze when she heard that she had thought about what would happen if he died but she never actually hear someone say it. She hugged baby Chibi-Usa close to her “Daddy’s going to be fine, you’ll see.” “nnn...Usako..” It was Mamoru he had woken up “How are you doing?” Usagi smiled at him Mamoru made noises it hurt him to much to speak and he was tired, and weak from the operation, but Usagi continued on talking to him until he fell asleep. Hours continued on but Usagi sat by Mamoru ever so often a Senshi would stop by to say that they were leaving or to take baby Chibi-usa. After a while Usagi curled up in the couch/makeshift bed and fell asleep. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Reader’s, E-mail would strongly be appreciated for opinions.
