Dear Masters Rower:

Come one, come all—join us at the 1996 Olympic Rowing Venue for an event you will always remember. We at the Lake Lanier Rowing Club, on behalf of the charming and growing community of Gainesville, Georgia, invite you compete in the Master’s Nationals on the beautiful 1996 Olympic Race Course. What a great opportunity for all Master’s Rowers!

The Course Itself—One of only 2 FISA-certified courses in the country, we offer 6 perfectly aligned and extremely fair lanes using the 1996 Olympic Course. Our Finish Tower is one of the best. We will have an additional 1000 meters of buoyed lanes for warming up as you approach the start. The course is set on a natural section of the lake, surrounded by hills and trees.

Regatta Management—Besides hosting the Olympic Rowing Events in 1996, we’ve also been the site of the 1995 USRowing Nationals, the first-ever meeting of Yale-Harvard-Oxford-Cambridge crews in 1996, the 1997 Champion Regatta, and the 1998 NCAA Women’s Championships. We were also the site of the popular Head of the ‘Hooch in 1998.

Our Reputation—We’ve earned a substantial reputation for running well-orchestrated fun events. Thanks are due to careful planning, well-qualified volunteers, 6 launch and recovery docks, a superb results system, and wakeless Olympic Chase launches.

New This Year!—The Regatta will run Wednesday through Saturday, with a planned make-up day set for Sunday in case of weather delays. Please schedule your departure for Sunday afternoon or evening, "just in case". The athlete party will be scheduled for Saturday evening. We have also added semi-final events when entries warrant, allowing the fairest opportunity for competitive advancement. There will be a team trophy this year for the club who wins the most points
during the regatta.

Our Community and the Area—Southern Hospitality and quiet charm typify our community. Yet Gainesville, as the magnet city for the Northeast Georgia Mountains has many cultural and recreational activities available. The Rowing Venue itself is easily accessible from the Interstate (985), and we’re only 75 minutes by interstate from the Atlanta airport. Hotels, motels, and B & B’s are available in Gainesville and the surrounding communities. Y’all come for what will be a memorable rowing event!
