SHIPS REUNION - OCTOBER 12 - 15, 2000
NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM - Check in and Registration at the main lobby, Best Western Mainstay Inn. Pick up welcome-aboard packets.
Noon - 5:30 PM - Hospitality and adjacent suite open. Adjacent suite will be set up for our raffle goods and memorabilia (room is non-smoking). We will have our own bar in the hospitality room.
Lunch on your own.
6:30 PM - Hors d'oeuvres buffet in Western Dining Room.
8:00 PM - 12:30 AM - Hospitality and adjacent suite will be open for fun, business, social, vegging out and getting acquainted with old (young) shipmates, etc. Our President, the honorable Joe Pope has kindly agreed to host the hospitality suite. Anyone arriving late can check in the room adjacent to the hospitality suite to pick up name badges an welcome-aboard packets.
7:00 AM - 9:00 AM - Breakfast on your own (restaurant in hotel).
9:30 AM Prompt - Board the buses for a tour of the U.S. Naval Base, Naval War College Museum, and SWAS (Surface Warfare Attack School). Immediately after the tours (approximately 11:30 - 12:15 PM), we will hold our Memorial Service on the shore of Dewey Field facing the east passage of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Bridge. At 12:15 PM, we can walk next door to the Officers' Club for lunch.
1:30 PM - Reboard the busses for a narrated tour of Newport, the Ten-Mile Drive, and drive by the mansions, arriving back at the hotel at approximately 4:00 PM. We will reboard the busses at 5:45 PM for the trip to Blount Marine for our dinner dance cruise aboard the Vista Jubilee (includes entertainment). A long day, but well worth it.
7:30 AM - 8:30 AM - Breakfast on your own (restaurant in hotel).
8:30 AM - 9:30 AM - Business meeting in restaurant to elect officers and choose a site for future reunions. Directly after the business meeting, we will hold our raffle so as not to be rushed at the gala banquet in the evening.

Trips to Providence and the brand new Providence Place Shopping Mall can be arranged; however, it's much less expensive to take the bus at $.50 each into the Newport Welcome Center and then take the bus from there at $2.50 per person, round trip. As reunion time nears, Bill Bartlett will contact the bus company to see if they will leave from the Best Western. Schedules will be in the welcome packet for your convenience.
6:00 PM - 12 Midnight - Gala Banquet to be held at the Officers' Club, U.S. Naval Base. A shuttle bus will take us back and forth from the hotel to the O-Club. Cocktail hour from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM with a cash bar. Dancing from 8:00 PM - 11:30 PM. Group pictures will be held at this time (immediately following dinner).
7:30 AM - 10:30 AM - Farewell breakfast at the hotel.
If anyone is staying over, trips to the mansions, the Breakers, Rose Cliff, etc. can be purchased at the Welcome Center in Newport.
Good-byes, Promises, Pledges, and "See you in Monterey!"
The cost of all of these items is $143.00, per person.
Be sure to indicate your meal choice for the banquet dinner on the reservation form.
