BIOGRAPHY:

Mikey's parents died when he was two years old going on three. His uncle told him they died in an earthquake in Turkey. No one has ever told him anything different. His uncle, Vincent Locasio, raised Mikey alongside Vincent's two sons, Francop and Antonio.  Vincent felt sorry for Mikey, and spoiled him as a youngster.

Average height and on the light side, he is not an intimidating presence in size, but what he lacks in size he more than makes up for in attitude. Plainly speaking, Mikey never put up with any B***s*** from anyone, and would fight whenever challenged.

His uncle was able to get him admitted into Starfleet Academy because the head of admissions owed Vincent Locasio a favor.  The first month, Vincent was called three times, each time the head of admissions begging Vincent to let them expel Mikey.  Vincent blamed himself for Mikey's lack of discipline, and would have sent him to the Marines if he'd had any favors to call in there.  He asked for one more chance for Mikey, and that Mikey be sent home for a month, so Vincent could 'persuade' him to apply himself.
Mikey came home.

Six of Vincent's associates ambushed Mikey in the courtyard of the Locasio estate, and killed Mikey. Actually beat him so bad his heart stopped. They left him like that for two minutes, then one of them who had medical training, revived him. Sure he was stable and conscious, they left him broken and bleeding in the courtyard. Uncle Vince watching from
overhead, through the French doors in his library on the second floor. And waited until he saw Mikey look up for help, see his uncle watching from above, and cry out, "Why?".  Then Vincent turned off the recorders. 

It took Mikey three weeks to recover from the fractured pelvis, broken hip, ruptured spleen, collapsed lungs, broken ribs, bruised heart, broken arm, torn ligaments in both knees and ankles, cracked orbital bones, broken lower jaw and fractured skull. His uncle kept him in the home, in traction, with no pain medications, for one week. Then he  brought in the physical therapist, by reputation the most sadistic in North America.

On more than one occasion Mikey screamed that he wished he was dead.

After three weeks, Mikey was getting stronger, almost well enough to walk across his room on his own. His uncle decided it was time for Mikey to leave.

Mikey woke the next morning to the sight of the six men who had killed him, standing around his bed. Still weak, he might have been able to fight off one of them, but he knew he stood no chance against all six.

His uncle entered the room. "These men saved your life. After you died, they revived you. Once."

Mikey listened as his uncle explained how Mikey was now paying the price for the errors in his upbringing, and that he would only get one more chance. And that if Vincent got one more call from anyone at Starfleet Academy, either telling or asking him to pick Mikey up, or that Mikey was discharged,  Vincent would correct his errors with Mikey the only way he knew how. By eliminating Mikey.

He made it clear. Mikey would die again, but this time there would be no
revivals.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE:

Command has placed a 'watch' advisory on Poland. He applied himself in his second stint in Academy, and his behavior and attitude warrant his commission as Ensign, but his background suggests he could be a loose cannon. CO is advised of this and evaluation reports are to be submitted on Poland every month.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: 

He likes to spend his free time in the simulator or holodeck, shooting things with big guns. He most likes air to air combat simulatins where he's flying in support of ground troops, and has to kill as many enemies as he can in a defined time period.

NRPG BACKGROUND MATERIAL:

A reserved character, Mikey keeps people at a distance emotionally. He feels betrayed by his parents, betrayed by his uncle, and despised by his cousins for his intrusion into their family life.

Resigned to complete Academy, Mikey decided to get through it with the least resistance as possible, and began after his first year to enjoy aspects of it. He decided on a Search and Rescue track, with Planetary Sciences as his fallback minor.  Good in math.

He knows better than to strike a superior officer, however he takes offense easily and is likely to encourage someone who doesn't like him to settle it man to man, be it off ship or on a holodeck, where rank has no privileges.

He loses his fair share of fights, and is unafraid to take on men twice his size.  Most men his size, don't have a tenth of the fight in them that he does.
