1968
Chevelle This is a 1968 Chevelle, dubbed "Sir William's Chevelle". It is owned by Richard and Sharon Lanphere of Upstate
New York. The car is actually a mix of '68 and '69 Chevelle body parts.
This 350 Chevy has been bored, stroked,
blueprinted, and balanced. It hooks to a M-22 tranny, and a 10-bolt 4.11:1 rear end.
The black/purple interior was
the only part of the car that was done professionally.
The stereo system includes 2 12" speakers, and 2 6" by 9"s. Its owners report that it "sure does play the oldies
with authority".
This car was originally purchased by
the Lanphere's son, William, in 1996, with no motor or transmission, and in need of restoration. William began a frame-up
restoration of the vehicle. In 1997, William was killed by a drunk driver. 5 years later, his Chevelle was driven out of the
garage, after the car was finished by William's father, and other family members and friends.
For more information
on "Sir William's Chevelle", with plenty of pictures of the restoration process, you can visit his sister's website, made
in tribute to Billy, at BillyLanphere.com.
