CHATTANOOGA 2007 HILL CLIMB
Model A’s started arriving in

A’s lined up and we traveled to the
After the conclusion of the train ride we met under large
shade trees and feasted on a picnic of catered BBQ pork and chicken with all
the trimmings. One thing Model A folks know how to do

The day’s events concluded with a trip to the restoration
shop and
Saturday morning arrived and we started setting up the
timing equipment, streets were barricaded, and city police positioned to direct
traffic. Our hill was on

a severe drought coupled with extremely hot weather all summer long. We were
afraid that we were in for a “hot time” but plenty of shade was close by the
pit area and we could hunt out a “dark spot” to cool down our bodies.
Spectators could lounge under the shade trees and watch the race in relative
comfort.

This year the biggest competition was with the Speedsters.
Eleven (11) Speedsters competed in the SP-1 class. A number of cars ran hard
and close but a favorite race for the spectators was the one between Ken Miller
and his 17 year old grandson, Seth Sayler. The much
lighter grandson won the competition proving again the value of reduced weight.
And speaking about weight, “The Sandman” Greg Deal from
King of the Hill was a tight race between Johnny Wofford and Cass Casmir from

The Awards Banquet was held on Saturday night aboard the
Southern Belle Riverboat. Over 130 Model A folks
boarded the boat for a delicious prime rib and shrimp creole

The Scenic City A’s were wonderful hosts for this event.
David Moore and his club members had everything organized and planned for a
