The seventh stage of the Rás went from Killybegs to Cootehill, 99 miles. It was won by Alges Maasikmets of Estonia, with England's Jeff Wright in second, and Richard Hobby of Lincoln in third.
Thanks to the riding of 37 year old Philip Cassidy, the yellow jersey is now lying in an Irish team room. He finished fourth, and now leads overall by 2'11" over Dermot Finnegan, with Pearse Colby in third. Previous leader Erki Putsep is now in 5th place, 4"44' down.

Brendan Carroll died tragically in a road traffic accident in October of last year. Although only in his twenties Brendan had been one of our efficient motorcycle marshals for a number of years. We all miss Brendan's huge physical presence, his
infectious good humour, broad smile and his unfailing commitment to the Rás. As a mark of our respect and love for Brendan the Race Organisation dedicates Stage 8 Cootehill to Drogheda to his memory.
Brendan's motorcycle marshal colleagues will in Drogheda present to the Rás the Brendan Carroll Memorial Trophy which will be awarded each year to the Winner of the King of the Mountains Classification.
