My Profile

I am Vincent Chan,I lived in Hong Kong,Thank you for visiting.(Sorry for my poor English)...........vincent_ysc@yahoo.com..............(Thanks Rebecca Underwood.)

I GOT THE TRV900E IN MARCH 1999,I USED SANDISK CF 48M FLASH CARD FOR STORING PHOTOS AND ALSO USED DVRAPTOR TO CAPTURE AVI AND PHOTOS

BEFORE THE TRV900E,I HAVE BEEN USING THE FOLLOWING CAMCORDER:

TRV9E

TRV9 features are good. It can be used as a video recorder. However, still photos are dark and noisy, and also the colors are dim even in sunlight. The video is good in sunlight but has yellow noise in low light conditions.

JVC DV1 DV1 is my first dv cam. I used it every day for a year. It is small and creates very nice images. It has better features than the trv9 but doesn't have digital output. The photos are better than trv9; images are bright even in low light conditions when using the slow shutter (but not brighter than trv900). Video is good in sunlight and in low light conditions. Even now, I still really like this DV Camcorder.
PC7E I had the opportunity to borrow and try out the PC7. It is compact with a 2.5 inch lcd display. It has few features, but photo image quality is good, on a par with the DV1, and the PC7 colour is better. Video is good in daylight but noisy under low light conditions (not having a slow shutter feature).
SANYO This is the first digital camera I got. It is quite small and easy to use. It has a great lcd display, bright and sharp, and has real time display. Photo quality is good in sunlight and low light. This is my choice for the best 350,000 pixel ccd camera. (Tip: If you want to take closeup photos, use a magnifying glass in front of your camera lens; it will take a large and beautiful closeup image.)
JVC GC-S1 This camera was my biggest disappointment. I expected more because I was so impressed with JVC's DV1. The JVC GC-S1 is quite small and has a 10X zoom lens. The features are good but the photo quality is poor. The color bleeds over the edge of the images. There is some color noise in all lighting conditions. The LCD display is not visible in sunlight. There is a 4 frame/second delay behind real time action which means you are never actually taking the picture that you see or what you want. I was very disappointed with this good looking swivel lens camera.
KODAK 210 My friend has this camera, and I borrowed it to compare with my Sanyo camera. The photo quality is good and color matches the original image. Because it has 800,000 pixels, quality is better than my Sanyo camera. The lcd display is quite good, has some delay, but download to computer is very slow. I had to wait half an hour to download 20 images (maybe my mistake, I don't know).
FUJI Inexpensive camera. Photo quality is good and it's easy to use. Half the price of GC-S1, but picture is better than GC-S1. A good choice.
EPSON Photos are quite dim and the color doesn't match the original. Same pixels ccd of Kodak 210. I prefer the 210.
Olympus
1400XL
I got this camera at about half price (US$480) of the original. Photo quality was nice. The camera was easy to use. Good white balance, but at low light conditions it's diffcult to focus and the flash was weak. You need to set the exposure +1~+2 EV to get a better result when you use a flash. No real time display; the lcd display just shows the photo after it was taken. For a sub-1.5-megapixels camera, it is a good choice.
Nikon
950
This camera has 2.1 megapixels. Photo quality is good, sharp and clear, and it has very good matrix metering, fast focus, metal body, swivelling lens, good for shooting candid shots, real time bright LCD display, but white or bright images have some colour fringing and barrel distortion. It uses compact flash for storage (which was good for me, as I also use compact flash for my TRV900).
Sony
F505
This camera has 2.1 megapixels. Photo quality is excellent, sharper and clearer than the 950, good white balance, good feeling Aluminium and Magnesium body, swivelling lens, 5X optical zoom. The real time LCD display can display under bright sunlight, but 2" display can not show detail if images were not in focus, and also the camera has no view finder. For a 2.1 megapixel CCD digital camera, I love this camera.
Nikon
990
I got this camera in mid-May. The body design is similar to the CP950. Photo quality was excellent with 3.34 megapixels CCD, resolution up to 2048X1536, swivelling lens, metal body, 3X zoom, optical viewfinder, more features and functions than CP950. The real time bright 1.8" LCD display with special coating lens made images sharper and clearer, but there's still some colour fringing at wide angles. Good white balance, color more natural than 950, compact flash for storage. ............................Here are some photos taken by 990(including Kenko 8X32,TC-E2 Nikon X2 plus 1.5X A200 )
--------add more tele lens Minolta 10X,Canon 15X50IS for CP990-----8/1/2001---
MEADE
ETX90EC
I liked to look at the stars at night when I was young and also wanted to be an astronomer, and now I got the astro telescope. A very good beginning. Here is my new page about ETX90EC astro telescope, and this telescope mounted with my TRV900 and CP990 work well. The page will be updated again when I got more photos and information, some photos of lunar eclipse at 10-1-2001

FOR TAKING PHOTOS, THE MODELS MENTIONED ABOVER ALL WERE OLD MODELS. IF I GET MORE NEW DV CAM OR DIG-CAMS, I WILL UPDATE MY HOMEPAGE. FINALLY I FELT TRV900E WAS THE BEST PHOTO AND VIDEO MACHINE THAT I GOT, BECAUSE THE BATTERY LASTS A LONG TIME, 48M OF MEMORY CAN TAKE ABOUT 270 SUPER FINE PHOTOS, 12X ZOOM AND PROGRESSIVE SCAN, 3CCD... WOOO, IT'S A PERFECT COMBINATION. ...................................((I tried an experiment using flash card. If you are using the PCMCIA slot in a notebook or desktop to download photos, don't use your computer to erase anything, because it will create a recycle bin in your flash card when your flash card is still in the slot. Then you will have less memory left on the flash card for taking photos.)
