The Sennen "ON LINE PARISH CLERK". web page is for everyone to enjoy as well as being a tool to help genealogist, historians, and others carrying out research. The aim is to provide information from an historical viewpoint on Sennen which is the most westerly parish in the United Kingdom. We have endeavor to provide a number of resources to help with research whilst at the same time hoping that others will share knowledge with others through the site. We welcome constructive comment and suggestions on how we can improve the content.
We now have the baptism records for the years 1700 -1812 on the site. The marriage records cover 1699 - 1837 and Burial records cover 1699 - 1887.
Our
thanks go to Margaret Owens and her friends in Australia who had transcribed the
marriage details and agreed that we could put these online. This was great news
and meant that George and I could concentrate on transcribing the Baptisms
Margaret is the Secretary of the Cornish Association of Victoria Inc. (CAV),
Australia, and also the Convener of the St.Just District Research Group, a group
within the CAV. St Just is an adjoining Parish to Sennen and Margaret and
her friend Alison, who is the Editor/Research Officer of the Group, and have
been gathering records for many years. She tells me that:
" It costs nothing to join the Group, but there is a small charge for research and photocopying expenses. Our aim is to put people, researching the same names, in the same areas, in touch with one another. Our area includes all of the parishes of West Penwith, and go out as far as Marazion, St. Hilary and Perranuthnoe."

has also joined the On Line Parish Clerk Project as the OPC for St. Just in
Penwith & Pendeen. She hopes eventually to put everything she has on
those 2 parishes onto a web site.

Descendents of the Vingoe family can trace their occupation of Lands End back to the 16th Century when a John Vingoe is shown on the Muster Roll. In tracing my family tree I have collected a lot of information on both the parish and its people. But this site is about all the people who lived and worked in the Parish which is far more than just the Lands End, The families who in the past lived and worked in Sennen tended to be multi-skilled Farmer / Fishermen, with a touch of Mining thrown in. If you had visited the parish in the 1600's you would have found sheep and goats by the thousands grazing the land. However one thing is certain it was a hard life and the frequent crop failures meant that Smuggling was also part of their trade, and sometimes this led to a Hanging. All this and more you will find on this site. So please browse the site as it will give you an insight as to how your ancestors lived. If you are researching your family and believe they came from the Sennen Parish then please get in touch if you need help. If they came from another Parish in Cornwall then go to the site and find the OPC for the area you are researching.
