Venus de Milo,
found during the second century BC
on the Island of Milo
The VENUS DE MILO Greek name was Aphrodite. The Romans called her Venus.
She was found during the second century B.C. on the island of Milos in the Aegean Sea. The 6' 6" piece contrasts the softness of the female form with shadows and texture of heavy drapery.
She used to have arms, but no one knows for certain what position they were in. She now stands in the Sculpture Gallery of the Louvre and is about 2100 years old.

In 1887, Gustave Eiffel won the competition to build a tower for the World Expo in 1889. At the time, the 300 meter tower was the tallest building in the world, and certainly didn't go without evoking its famous controversies. But nothing would stop the success of the Expo and of the tower. This monument has seen many uses through the ages; it has been the antenna for TSF and the international time service, and has served as a radio transmitter. But most of all, over the course of time, it has become the most widely-known symbol of Paris.
The tower is comprised of 12,000 pieces of metal weighing 7,000 metric tons, and the stairs to the top number 1,652. The Eiffel Tower has become an integral part of the French skyline.
The Arc de Triomphe
This massive monument was built by the very modest Napoleon I to glorify his battlefield victories. Once on top of the arch, you can see the 12 avenues that radiate from the Place de l'Etoile to form a star (étoile=star, get it?). At the center of the arch burns the Eternal Flame, a symbol of sorrow in remembrance of France's veterans.
8th arrondissement.Paris, France. The city of lights, and where just a few short years ago really, a man by the name of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich marched through the Arch of Triumph. Fuckin' incredible! You could just smell the history there. It was very exciting.
