Ch Walkon Big Star JW

Born 15.12.16
Heart Tested Grade 0

Named after the 2016 Olympic Gold Medal winning combination of Nick Skelton & Big Star, "Skelly" has lived up to his name. He had a remarkable start to his career and by the tender age of 9 months had won 12 out of the 12 puppy classes entered, something we had never done with any of our other dogs.
This started in June 2017 with 10 Minor Puppy Dog wins at: Border Union, Blackpool, Windsor, East of England, National Working & Pastoral Breeds, Leeds, The British Boxer Club, Paignton, Bournemouth and the Welsh Kennel Club Championship Shows. Despite his age he was Best Puppy Dog on all but two occasions and Best Puppy In Breed three times winning Puppy Group 4 at East of England and Puppy Group 1 at the Welsh KC.

He moved up into the puppy classes in September at Darlington Championship Show where under breed specialist Gill Henderson he once again won Best Puppy In Breed and went one better by winning Reserve Best of Sex. Once again he picked up another group placing, winning Working Puppy Group 2

At his next show, The Irish Boxer Club Championship Show, his won his 5th Best Puppy In Breed and absolutely thrilled us by winning his first RCC! under another breed specialist Dawn Thomas.
Completely unfazed he went out five days later to Driffield Championship Show where to our absolute delight he went one better, under breed specialist Joe Smith, by not only winning a 6th Best Puppy but the CC & Best Of Breed!. Although Ch Crackers At Walkon and Ch Walkon Made'n Issue won CC's from puppy classes Skelly became the youngest CC winner for the Walkon Kennel!

Next came the Trent Boxer Club and Working & Pastoral Breed of Scotland Championship Shows where Skelly noticed up another two Best Puppy awards as well as winning Working Puppy Group 2 at the second of the two shows.
At the South Western Boxer Club Championship Show, in November, under all rounder Des Manton “Skelly” again won Best Puppy In Show, and repeated his success at LKA in December under bred specialist Laura Clark completing his puppy career with 9 Best Puppy awards at Championship Shows.

He also ended the year as Top Boxer Puppy & Top Working Puppy 2017

2018 started just as successfully and continued with an almost unbeaten record the entire year. The Boxer Event in March was his first major win where under American all rounder Jason Hoke he won Pup Of The Year. Two weeks later, at the South Wales Boxer Club Show, he won his 2nd CC & Best In Show under Graham Mullis, following this up with 2 RCC's before gaining his title at Tyne, Wear & Tees Boxer Club Show under Steve Gething where again he won the CC & Best In Show.
This was followed by another CC the following week at Birmingham National under Liz Rawlings shortly before he moved to the yearling classes and a summer which resulted in a further 4 RCC's.
With his half brother Walkon Masterclass moving into Junior it was decided to transfer Skelly to Open to give more time between their respective classes. Once again Skelly held his own, winning four more CC's, three with Best Of Breed at Midland Counties, London & Home Counties BC, South Western BC and the Cotswold BC, under Marion Campbell (Ireland), Annmarie Maeland (Sweden), Vicky Bell & Jim Reynolds (Canada) respectively.

Skelly ended the year as Top Boxer 2018 with 8CC's & 7RCC's to his credit, and he then came out with a bang in 2019 winning the first CC of the year at Manchester under all rounder Simon Luxmore.
