TKATCH, Carol J. (Mercadante)
As you read this today, I have completed the final chapter of my life. On April 9, 2001, in The Medical Center, Beaver, my courageous (a term my children would insist upon) one-year battle with cancer ended. However, I do not want you to grieve. I want you to carry on remembering all of the beautiful memories that we have created and shared together. As for the details of my life, I was born on May 15, 1942, in Sewickley, to Charles J. and Olga (Malenich) Mercadante. I resided in Baden for the last 39 years of my life and was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Truly, the greatest success of my life was the raising of my three children, all of whom survive me. They include my daughter and son-in-law, Laura S. and Timothy J. Buck; my son and daughter-in-law, Dru A. and Shannen Tkatch, and my youngest son, Neil R. Tkatch. They all reside in Baden and have surrounded me with love, not only in my final days, but throughout my entire life. My children also provided me with another of the greatest joys of my life, my grandsons, Brandon and Aadan Buck, and Philip and Owen Tkatch, all of who survive me and are also of Baden. In addition, I am survived by my father, Charles J.; my brother, Charles R., Fair Oaks; my sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Thomas Throckmorton of Baden; my mother-in-law, Mary (Garbinsky) Tkatch of Baden; my sisters-in-law and their husbands, Marlene and Ronald Kennedy, and Virginia and Walter Raven, all of Baden; many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and dear friends, and my two constant household companions and pets, Alex and Rocky. I was preceded in death by my mother, Olga, and my father-in-law, Joseph Tkatch, both in 1999. I must take a moment to thank all of you who have helped my children and myself over the past year, in the coming days, and over the span of my own and their lives. Your kindness in the form of love, support, prayers, flowers, food and gentle thoughts and words will never be forgotten. I thank you for all that you have done and for all you will continue to do. As I finish my final thoughts, I want you to remember that I loved you all. And although I am no longer physically with you, my love will surround you for all of your days on this earth. Live your lives to their fullest. I did. Do not become overwhelmed in mourning me. As I taught my children, you must be a survivor in this world. Know that in your hearts and minds, I will be with you always. With love...your mom, grammy, sister, daughter, aunt, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, family member and friend, Carol. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the John Syka Funeral Home Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where a funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. and a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. (The Beaver County Times, Beaver, PA, April 11, 2001).
