"Life in Israel of late has become surreal. Due to the ongoing
Palestinian terror campaign, even the most mundane of tasks has taken
on an aura of peril, transforming our daily lives into a series of
carefully calculated, deliberate steps. Every errand that needs to be
done, every trip to the supermarket or the mall, inevitably invites
some level of risk assessment, as one is forced to make decisions we
ought never have had to face."
That is unfortunate that recent events have disrupted life for
Israelis and put their lives at risk. But to put things in
perspective, at least they are *allowed* to take part in these
mundane tasks. This is not true for millions of Palestinians in the
West Bank who have been living under Israeli imposed curfews for
weeks (exact length varies according to city/refugee camp). There is
no calculation involved. Open your door and step outside, and risk
getting shot by snipers. Now that really makes getting the errands
done a lot more difficult. Need to see a doctor because of a heart
attack, birth of a baby, or massive internal bleeding due to your
house collapsing on you as it was being bulldozed by Israeli tanks?
Too bad for you since medics are not permitted into these cities.
How's that for having your life disrupted?
I apologize if some deem this irrelevant to the purpose of this
list. I would like to pose a question that perhaps is relevant and
to which undoubtedly some of you have opinions: What would a
(peaceful) libertarian solution to this conflict look like?
Trying to answer that and advocating it is would be considerably more
helpful than bickering.
