You won't believe how I got into Akita's.  My Son and his family were off to dog shows, while my daughter and I were off to equestrian events.  I was having the time of my life with my daughter and our horses, but I realized that I was never with my Son's family.  Realizing that I wanted to share in their family's fun so I asked my Son to help me find a Akita Bitch.  One that I could show, and travel with them.

My lucky day came when I met Carol Parker and left her home with a 12 week old Akita Bitch.  I knew nothing about dogs not to mention the sport of dog showing;   Carol took me under her wing and many years later I continue to value the first day we met.  I have been fortunate to meet many other wonderful Akita breeders, and now have several valuable friendships.  One of them was Alice Sakayeda through whom my foundation Shibas were acquired.

As a breeder I feel that I have a tremendous  responsibility to the Akita, to maintain a high standard in my breeding program.  Every breeding is carefully planned to hopefully produce the Akita as described in our breed standard.  I have been involved with obedience and agility but truly enjoy conformation most of all.  Some days at the show are outstanding and some are not.  No matter what happens, I'm very proud of every one of the Akitas or the Shibas at my side, just ask me.

Any one who is around when Manny (my husband) and I whelp a litter of puppies knows that we truly enjoy what we are doing and totally devote months in preparation and at least two months in training when the puppies arrive.. Carefully we screen the prospective buyers looking for those who will be responsible Akita owners.  Then I have lots of fun planning the goodies that go home with the puppy.

My club memberships are; Channel Islands Akita Club, Akita Club of America, Simi Valley Kennel Club, Shiba Club of Southern California and Akita Support and Placement.

"Kuro" finished her championship with 2 5-point majors back-to-back, a 3 point major and 2 single points.  "Kuro" had excellent sidegate and moved clean coming and going.  She had a typey head, beautiful coat, and a fabulous temperament.  She was my guardian only when she knew it was necessary.  She was wonderful with all children especially our grandchildren.  Anyone welcomed into our home she welcomed into her whelping box.   She was as proud of her babies as I was of her.

My first Akita, my friend and devoted companion.
