The Mexican Wolf

Similar to the Red Wolf, the Mexican Wolf, or Canis lupus baileyi, is on the brink of extinction. It is one of the smallest sub-species. It's length reaches about 4.5 feet and it's height reaches about 32 inches. The Mexican Wolf used to range from central Mexico to western Texas, southern New Mexico and central Arizona. By the early 1900s natural prey began to reduce (from overhunting, developments...) causing the wolf to turn to attacking livestock. This caused government agencies and individuals to eradicate the Mexican Wolf. By the 1950s, the Mexican Wolf was extinct from the wild. Ever since 1976, the Mexican Wolf is declared an endangered species. Now, less than 200 Mexican Wolves live in zoos and museums and fewer than 40 Mexican Wolves live in the wild.
