Albrook Mall
shopping center, constructed on two levels as one of the first
of the new concept (to Panama) of major shopping centers, is
located adjacent to the Marcos A. Gelabert airport (thus between the airstrip
and the National Transport Terminal and the North Corridor toll
road) on part of the former Albrook Army Airfield that was
transferred to Panama October 1, 1979.
Constructed on 380,00 square meters of
land and designed with a new marketing concept, Albrook Mall
is the first "Fun Mall" in the
country. It is the first enclosed commercial center with
total air
conditioning system in Panama open Monday to Saturday from
10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m.; and on national holidays from 11:00 a.m.
to 7:00 p.m. It has more than 5,000 parking
spaces with outside lighting and high safety
specifications. It is easily accessible from any
area in the city. It
offers a variety of services and
entertainment, shopping, banking facilities, restaurants
and a food court, and other commercial
activities for the entire family.
The Cinemark movie theater is reportedly the most modern in Central
America and number one in Panama. It
has stadium-like theaters with comfortable
reclining chairs, a capacity for 2,553
spectators, and the latest projection and sound
equipment.
Albrook Mall
and MultiPlaza Pacifica mall (the latter an upper scale mall) in
the new Plaza Pacifica area in Paitilla) are considered by
experts to be the two most successful commercial centers in
Panama City. [La
Prensa's Martes Financiero (Tuesday Financial
supplement), November 28, 2006] The
success for Albrook Mall has been partly attributed to its
location adjacent to the National Transport Terminal (hence
access by all local public buses) and to its being able to
accommodate more expansion. (MultiPlaza Pacifica's
success has been attributed in great part to its being located
in one of the highest income areas of Panama City and centrally
located to Paitilla and nearby San Francisco areas.)
Coincidently, Albrook Mall at Albrook, the new location of the
Marcos A. Gelabert domestic airport, and MultiPlaza Pacifica
constructed on what was the site of that airport until
1999.
