I WASN’T LOOKING WHEN YOU FOUND ME

I wasn’t looking the day you found me,
You ran across the dangerous parking lot wanting to be free,
You dodged the people, cars and came straight to me,
I wasn’t looking the day that you found me.

A beautiful Honey colored blond with blue eyes
That sparkled but filled with the plea, please
Take me home, now that you’ve found me.

As the years passed my life was filled with laughter,
pain and tears, You always found me and lingered near.
What a comfort with all  the love showing in those eyes of blue,
that was a reflection of a heart that was true.

What a beautiful crisp morning that fateful day,
Oh how glad I am that I took the extra time to play.
You chased your ball, ran in and out of the trees,
Happy because you were loved and had the space to run free.

We played again that evening when I came home,
Never dreaming within the hour I would have to go on alone.
I fixed your favorite dinner, went outside and called your name,
Waiting for you to come running, jumping, playing your game.

It was raining as I called and called your name,
But you didn’t come, my heart filled with fear
For this time I WAS looking
For a loved one, I could feel you so near.

This time I WAS looking, this time I found you
As my heart filled with so much pain, lying on your
Side in the dark and cold rain………….

Honey was attacked and killed by a strange dog that belonged to a new family that had recently moved to our neighborhood. The dog came into the garage grabbed her by the throat in a grip that killed her instantly. The dog dragged her out of the garage into the back yard where it left her body.

Honey was a neighborhood pet. So many of the children can not have pets of their own loved her and played with her. I had an invisible fence around a half acre for her to run and be safe. The children could come and play, yet she couldn't get out of the yard in danger of cars or roaming.  It’s hard to explain death of a beloved animal to a small child, especially when it was so vicious and so unnecessary.

So many people hurt because the owners were not responsible and didn’t care enough about their dog or others to keep it in a fence. This animal is now  hunted and will be destroyed when found. There is every indication that it has killed before. People fear that a child may be its next victim.

PLEASE if you have an animal, protect it and others, by having it neutered or spade and making provisions to confine it in a fenced
area
.
