Rena Mero was born Rena Greek in Jacksonville, Florida. Being from a poor family, her mother always worked very hard to support Rena and her three siblings. As a child, she enjoyed playing on the beaches, softball, horseback riding, and cheerleading. Eventually she turned to modeling. The story of how Rena got into wrestling is one of the more infamous ones. While at a restaurant one night, a man named Marc Mero sent over a drink with a message attached: "Do you like me? Yes or no?" Rena scribbled "Maybe" on the note and sent it back to him. In time, the pair hooked up and were married. At the time, Mero was a big part of World Championship Wrestling, but was about to jump over to Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation. Rena accompanied her husband to his contract signing and immediately caught the eye of Mr. McMahon. Bedazzled by her impressive assets, McMahon hired Marc AND Rena. They both enjoyed successful wrestling careers in the WWF, before leaving abruptly in 1999 due to a sexual harassment suit filed by Rena. In it, she alleged that the WWF was trying to force her to bare her breasts on live TV and that she was being forced to take degrading photos. Also, she claimed that the WWF creative team wanted her to participate in a lesbian storyline. The suit was eventually settled out of court and Rena received a large sum of money, while losing all rights to her wrestling name, "Sable." Since leaving the WWF, Rena has done several movies, magazine shoots, a comic book, an autobiography, and even got back into wrestling as the Chief Executive Officer of the Xtreme Wrestling Federation. No one ever thought she would return to the WWF/WWE, but that's exactly what she did on April 3, 2003. Confronting Torrie Wilson on Smackdown about her new Playboy pictorial, Rena came out and seductively gave the woman a kiss in front of the stunned crowd, signalling her return for good. That's right folks, the ".38 Specials" are back!
Sable was one of the most lucrative, and controversial, women in wrestling history. She, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Degeneration X, took the WWF to new heights in terms of merchandise sales and popularity. Though starting out merely as a valet, she eventually broke all kinds of taboo barriers, participating in "bra and panties" matches, steamy photoshoots, and of course the infamous "Skin to Win" bikini contest. Debuting at Wrestlemania 13 as an escort for Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Sable made an immediate impact. After losing his match, Helmsley blamed the buxom siren for his loss, prompting "Marverlous" Marc Mero to come to her aid. The resulting relationship would be a dual one, as they became associates as well as lovers. Sable gained notoriety early on as a temptress, a woman who was as comfortable in little or no clothing as she was with it. Case in point: the Slammy Awards of 1997. She won "Dressed to Kill" and "Miss Slammy" thanks to a shocking X-style bikini (if it could even be called that). Around this time, Marc Mero injured his knee, requiring time off to heal. Instead of staying at home to nurse her client/boyfriend, Sable chose to see how far she could go in the WWF. She participated in whatever the organization required of her, whether it was scantily-clad photoshoots or wrestling matches against rival, Luna. By the time Mero returned from his injury, the popularity of his girlfriend had far eclipsed his own, causing the man to grow angry. He then began mistreating Sable, degrading and humiliating her in public. This all came to a head when the couple, now broken up, faced off at a Pay Per View, with the loser having to leave the WWF forever. Sable lost, thus, ending her career with the WWF. Or so it seemed. Weeks later, she resurfaced on Monday Night Raw where it was revealed that she had slept with Mr. McMahon to get her job back. This set up a feud with Mero and his new valet, Jacqueline. The feud culminated at the Fully Loaded Pay Per View with a "Skin to Win" bikini contest. After Jacqueline slyly flashed her nipples to the crowd, Sable ripped off her entire top, exposing her breasts, bare save for two handprints coyly painted on. Even though Mr. McMahon had cautioned her to wear something conservative, she defied him, reasoning that she wasn't really topless because she was "wearing" paint. Mr. McMahon disagreed and disqualified Sable, declaring Jacqueline the winner. The feud continued and Sable evenutally captured the WWF Women's Championship from her rival. She would hold on to it until late 1999, when she left the organization because of sexual harassment. She never really lost the title, however. During a "bra and panties" match against Debra, which Sable won by stripping the other woman, WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels declared a change of rules and gave the title to Debra. Humiliated, Sable left the arena and would not be seen again until April of 2003. It was at that time that she returned to the WWF/WWE, confronting Torrie Wilson on Smackdown and giving her a playful kiss in front of the shocked crowd. Only time will tell what is in store for the returning hoochie.
