Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is the first black Greek letter organization founded by Black women. Her roots date back
to Howard University, Washington D.C. where Ethel Hedgeman Lyle conceived the idea of enriching the social and intellectual
aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates.
Our Mission: To encourage growth in our community through service; and continue to expand our fellowship with other women.
The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to
promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concering girls and women, to maintain
a progressive interest in college life and to be of service to ALL mankind.
