Rent "Sunshine"
My wife brought home some videos for viewing. One was titled "Sunshine" with Ralph Fieness(sp) who played the sniping concentration camp guard in "Shindlers List" as well at the lead in "An English Patient" and others.
It is the story of a Yugoslavian jewish family, named "Zunnenshine" or "Sunshine" and traces them from about 1870 to about 1960. Through WW1, the rise of communism, the fall of communism, the rise of fascism, WW2, the 1956 uprising, and the resultant Soviet crackdown.
The moral of the story? Some things never change. Whenever some group comes to power, it will villify the previous regime, punish them for their transgressions, promise to last 1,000 years, turn out to be just as bad, and be thrown out in 20 years or so.
And the spooky thing...each regime used the same bureaucrats to inflict pain on whatever out-group was in vogu (jews always included).
It came in two cassettes, but is worth the time.
