Here's an introductory message from the group moderator:
Tim, the Maricopa County chariman has just sent out the following message. Unfortunately he didn't use a mailing list for it but just sent it out to a list of addresses. Most people will simply use the "reply" button in their mail program and send their reply only to Tim.
Long experience says that it is impossible to have a discussion this way.
Most of the people receiving the list are already members of lpaz-maricopa. I have sent invitations to those that aren't. I think we should use that list for any discussion. I will reply there.

Dear Committee Members, Contributors and Friends:
At the Outreach Meeting on Tuesday, Tom Rawles discussed the ruling and outlined our options. The bottom line is that a successful petition for appeal is highly unlikely to be accepted. Tom said that he would not handle any such appeal.
Both Powell and myself, the only Steering Committee members present at the meeting, and Linda, believe that we shouldn't do it. Therefore, at the next Business Meeting, we will put forth a motion to either disband or reorganize.
The fate of the registration project must be decided before then; like NOW. At this time, we are 863 registrations short of the projected threshold on October 1st. We have $260 cash in hand, and a (nominal) pledge of $1,325 outstanding. I have asked all of the pledgors to reaffirm their commitment, and so far we have $750 reaffirmed. That means we can expect to get a total of about 650 valid paid registrations (given a validity rate of 80%). With a lttle push I'm certain we can make it. At this time, we need a clearly defined reason for doing it. I for one, don't believe in being a good sport when the beneficiary is Peter Schmerl. However, I also think Peter's horse is just about dead, even in Pima County. I believe that, now that he has killed the ALP, the very LAST thing he wants is Maricopa ballot status. Maricopa will have almost twice as many potential precinct committee slots as Pima, and he really has very little presence here. I think an organized effort here, combined with the dissenters in Pima County would easily be able to put an end to them in January, 2003.
If we do continue, they'll know why we are up to, not that they can stop us. We really floored them with what we've done so far.
The question is; should we do it? The floor is open for discussion.
Tim
