Hi Glendale,

You folks have seen fit to implement weapon restrictions in parks and public buildings which only affect law-abiding citizens. Now you have applied the same fallacious reasoning to speed bumps, of all things.

The city has installed speed bumps on 59th Lane, between Northern and Orangewood. These aren't the old-style speed bumps that give eveyone who crosses a jolt. No, these are "new and improved." There are spaces left at wheel width so a vehicle travelling down the center of the road can pass without "getting humped." You cleverly painted a double line right down the center so people who swerve to the middle of the road to avoid the jolt can be cited. Cute.

I've read about these newfangled speed bumps, which have been advocated by some for the purpose of allowing emergency vehicles to pass umimpeded, but before experiencing them myselftoday I thought they were still just some idiot's crazy proposal.

What exactly are they supposed to accomplish? Any drag racer will speed down the middle of the road and avoid hitting the bumps. Yet, I can be cited for swerving around the bumps (crossing double line) even if I'm travelling under the speed limit. If an officer is present to cite people for avoiding the bump, couldn't he just as easily cite people who are exceeding the speed limit? Why do you have speed bumps that are optional for speeders, but mandatory for the law-abiding?

You guys and gals have a penchant for adopting policies that only harm the good guys. Wake up.
