Disappearing pioneer HDB flats @ Short Street |
13
SHORT STREET, HDB-CENTRAL ZONE (180013) |
|
|
|
These
flats at Short Street were one of the earliest flats built by HDB in the
early 1960s. Similarly, these flats had their kitchen along the corridor,
and residents hung their clothes facing the courtyard (see map above).
Because they were low-rise housing, these flats were demolished, together
with the SIT flats next to them in Stamford Estate. |
The
dilapidated facade of Albert House formed a huge contrast with the
upgraded, vibrant Selegie House. |

UPPER PICKERING STREET (051002) |
|
|
|
These
flats were one of the earliest flats built by HDB in the early 1960s.
Because their exterior were made of mainly red bricks, they were nicknamed
'red brick houses'. These flats had their kitchen along the corridor, and
residents hung their clothes facing the courtyard (see map above).
Because they were low-rise housing, these flats were demolished. |
** special thanks to Alan for recommending good
shooting grounds!
