Steelers overcome the Chargers 34-21 in a wild contest that still leaves Pittsburgh outside the playoffs.

Indianapolis' win denies the Steelers a playoff spot, but can't deny them an exciting win over San Diego. Pittsburgh trails 14-7 after a wild 1st quarter.

Ryan Leaf hits Jeff Graham with a 71-yard TD on the Chargers' 1st play. The Steelers come right back, tying when Will Blackwell returns the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a TD. San Diego retakes the lead when Rodney Harrison returns an INT 63 yards for a TD.

Kordell Stewart overcomes the early mistake, going 16-of-32 for 190 yards and 1 TD. Stewart evens the game with a 5-yard TD pass to Courtney Hawkins in the 2nd quarter. Stewart scrambles for a 19-yard TD w/ :55 left in the 1st half to build a 24-14 lead. Stewart adds a 1-yard TD for a 31-21 lead early in the 4th quarter.

Jerome Bettis runs for 51 yards, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark.
