Fernando Alonso captures his 2nd consecutive world championship, bringing his Renault home in 2nd place, behind Ferrari's Felipe Massa, in an event dominated by the shadow of legendary Michael Schumacher's retirement.

Needing only to finish in the top 8 to clinch the title, Alonso drives safely, helping Renault win the Constructor's title as well. Meanwhile, Schumacher turns in one of his better drives of the season. Schumacher finishes 4th after starting in 10th position following a poor qualifying, and seeing his Ferrari slide to the back with a punctured tire early.
