Houston leads 13-7 in the 2nd half, driving deep in Miami territory when the Cougars and Jackie Battle spit the upset bit. Battle fumbles at the Miami 10, early in the 3rd quarter. The Hurricanes then drive 84 yards for the go-ahead score on Kyle Wright's 2-yard TD toss to James Bryant.

The Hurricanes are able to consume enough clock to win, as true freshman Javarris James runs for 148 yards and 1 TD in his 1st start offering hope that the next coaching staff will have at least 1 playmaker.
