Chavez Grant's diving interception of Jeff Rowe with :18 left in the game saves Miami's victory and winning season. The Hurricanes' defense stalled enough Nevada drives to force 4 FGs rather than TDs. After Brett Jaekle's 2nd FG ties it 14-14 in the 3rd quarter, Kirby Freeman hits Sam Shields with a 78-yard TD pass on the next play.

Two more FGs by Jaekle cut the lead to 21-20 before Grant's INT prevents a potential 5th and winning FG. Freeman goes 11-of-19 for 272 yards and 2 TDs, including a 52-yarder in the 2nd quarter, while also adding a TD run in the 1st quarter. Shields has 4 catches for 101 yards.
