Miami takes advantage of 3 turnovers by North Carolina, and a trick play. Safety Lovon Ponder enters the game and hits Sam Shields with a 37-yard TD pass, getting Miami on the board late in the 1st quarter. The Tar Heels get within 10-7 in the 2nd quarter on Ronnie McGill's 2-yard TD run.

However, the Canes defense makes life miserable for Cam Sexton, who goes 9-of-28 with 2 INTs. Jon Beason intercepts Sexton just before halftime, setting up Charlie Jones for a 1-yard TD run w/ :08 left. Javarris James runs for 114 yards, including a 62-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter.
