Game Notes

#4 Sooners deny the #2 Seminoles in the end 18-17.

J.C. Watts beats Florida State with his arm rather than his trademark running. Watts leads Oklahoma on the game-winning drive in the final minutes, finally hitting Steven Rhodes for an 11-yard TD w/ 1:27 left in the game, and then finding Forest Valora for the decisive 2-point try. Florida State defenders dropped 2 potential game-winning INTs on the possession.

Florida State had lead for much of the 4th quarter after Bobby Butler recovers a mishandled punt snap in the end zone for a TD.

The Seminoles had dominated the first half, while the Sooners committed several of their 4 turnovers. However, FSU managed just a 7-0 lead on Ricky Williams' 10-yard TD run. Michael Keeling gives Oklahoma life with a 53-yard FG on the final play of the half.

David Overstreet then gives the Sooners a 10-7 lead with a 4-yard TD run. However, Bill Capece knots the game with a 19-yard FG late in the 3rd quarter.

Watts claims the Oklahoma MVP award going 7-of-12 for 128 yards while rushing for 48 yards.
