Game Notes

#2 Hurricanes stop the #7 Nittany Lions 17-14.

Miami follows up its win over Florida State by bringing down unbeaten Penn State in Happy Valley. The Hurricanes ride a methodical but effective running game to a 1st half lead, while the Lions are mistake-prone.

Dexter Seigler blocks a FG attempt, then Craig Fayak later misses a chip shot. Meanwhile, Donnell Bennett caps a ground-oriented march with a 10-yard TD run. Dane Prewitt adds a 26-yard FG giving Miami a 10-0 lead.

Penn State claws back into the game, taking the 2nd half kickoff and driving for Richie Anderson's 10-yard TD run. However, the Hurricanes' defense strikes back with 2 key plays. Jessie Armstead pressures John Sacca into a bad pass that Darren Krein intercepts and returns for a 28-yard TD w/ :14 left in the 3rd quarter.

Then Micheal Barrow stops Anderson on 4th-and-1 at the Miami 6 to avert one scoring threat. After Sacca pulls Penn State within 17-14 on a 15-yard TD pass to O.J. McDuffie, the Miami defense makes 2 final stops to preserve the win.
