In the first game after Washington snaps Miami's 58-game winning streak in the Orange Bowl, the Canes bounce back denying Bobby Bowden and FSU again.

Miami's defense frustrates Florida State all night. Warren Sapp has 8 tackles and 2 1/2 QB pressures, as the Noles go through 3 QBs. Danny Kanell is intercepted 3 times before being pulled, the final one a pick by Carlos Jones who returns it for a TD and a 31-17 lead in the 3rd quarter. FSU manages just 41 yards rushing.

Frank Costa throws 2 interceptions, but avoids the huge mistake, throwing for 177 yards and getting FSU to jump offside 8 times. The Canes ground it out on the Noles' D, rushing for 182 yards, including 85 yards and 2 TDs from James Stewart.
