Game Notes

Bills stun the Jets in wild 31-27 win.

Buffalo dazes New York early jumping out to a 24-0 lead, but has to hang on until Bill Simpson's INT late saves the victory. It's 1 of 4 INTs by the Bills' defense.

It's the first turnover, however, a fumble on the opening kickoff resulting in Charles Romes' 26-yard TD return that sets the tone. Joe Ferguson hits Frank Lewis for TDs of 50 and 26 yards in the Bills' early surge. Ferguson finishes 17-of-34 for 268 yards and 2 TDs, but also suffers 4 INTs. Lewis has 7 catches for 158 yards.

Richard Todd goes 28-of-51 for 377 yards and 2 TDs with his 4 INTs, and helps New York start to climb back into the game with a 30-yard TD pass to Mickey Shuler that is part of a rally to pull within 24-10 at halftime. After Joe Cribbs extends the Bills' lead to 31-13 with a 45-yard run in the 4th quarter, Todd hits Bobby Jones with a 30-yard TD pass, and drives the Jets for Kevin Long's 1-yard TD run to pull within 31-27 w/ 3:44 remaining.
