Game Notes

Steelers shock the top-seeded Colts 21-18 in a wild, strange game.

Pittsburgh opens up a 14-0 lead on Indianapolis before Peyton Manning has completed his 1st pass. Ben Roethlisberger is the key rather than the running game. His early passing, including 2 TDs get Indianapolis on its heels.

The Steelers eventually lead 21-3 late in the 3rd quarter when Manning, Colts start to show life. After a 4th down conversion, Manning connects w/ Dallas Clark on a 50-yard TD pass w/ 14:09 remaining in the game.

After a blown call/replay overrules an interception by Troy Polamalu, Indianapolis drives down for Edgerrin James 3-yard TD run w/ 4:24 left. Pittsburgh appears to have it locked up though when Indianapolis turns it over on downs inside its own 5.

But Jerome Bettis fumbles and Nick Harper recovers with only Roethlisberger to beat. But Roethlisberger makes the tackles preventing a game-winning TD. The Colts still drive to set up a 47-yard FG attempt by Mike Vanderjagt. But the reliable Indianapolis kicker misses the tying FG attempt badly.
