Rusty and Pat in 1990

Rusty, my beloved yellow cat died after a valiant struggle with kidney failure on 11 January 2001. It was a sudden loss for us and a most cruel stab to my heart. Rusty was my friend, companion, and dear heart. Rusty was born in March or April of 1989 and came into our lives because some fools threw him out of their car and, thankfully, he miraculously survived and was eagerly taken into our home. The words to describe how precious he was to me just refuse to come. I feel utterly miserable at his death and the way he had to die. He was brave and determined to live. His spirit tried but his body could not maintain him.

My other babies 'gone but not forgotten' are: Tobey (d.1950's), Miquette--11--(d. Dec. [ca.] 1966), Pandy--16--(d. Nov. 1988), Cindy--15--(d. Jan. 1997), and Muffet--10+--(d. March 1999).

23 January 2001

Another wonderful friend, Taz, died today and I would like to honor her also. We are not only grievously desolate but also stunned, shocked, and numb. She was Clint's adored "Puppy Dog." Our darling little love.

23 September 2001

Little Maverick died on Saturday June 22, 2002. She was 15. She was always there to greet us when we visited Janet and Terry. She was the cutest little "scrubbing bubble." She is still there, in her yard so we can visit her.

24 June 2002

Pat and Annette said goodbye to Beloved Babe today. Geez, she brought so much sunshine to us all. How we will miss her.

13 July 2002

We were given a copy of this poem essay which I would like to share with everyone mourning the absence and loss of THEIR 'golden hearts.'

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: each one misses someone very special who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. All at once he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from you heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...
