AFoggyone's The Fox

The Fox

I run and i run, i hide and i duck
Praying i have just a bit of luck
They're back there i know, not far away,
Waiting to pounce with their hounds at bay.
They see me again and the hunt is on
My life's at stake, my future's gone
I have no chance in this violent sport,
My hands are tied, and i can't abort.

I wade through a river and climb up the bank,
My head dropped down, my spirit sank.
My head is spinning, my eyes are beady,
My pulse races and my pace is speedy.
I scamper through cracks and duck through trees,
They can't be that far from catching me.

I run and i run, i hide and i duck,
Praying i have just a bit of luck.
I jump over rocks and slide down hills,
Taking more than my share of painful spills.
But still they're back there, and closing in,
I can hear their shouting, the growing din
Of tireless men and bloodthirsty dogs,
Searching for me in the mud and the bogs.

I move through swamps with lichens and moss,
Fearing my capture and inevitable loss.
I come to a lake and follow the shore,
I'm still in danger, so i must do more.
I wade through a river and climb up the bank,
My head dropped down, my spirit sank.

They're closer now, i can feel their breath,
Raising the hairs on the back of my neck.
I move faster, and hear their horrid shouts
Directing the traffic for this noble bout.
A game they call it, where I'm the prey;
It was my job to run away.
I ran well, far off the normal course,
But that did little to cause remorse.

They want me dead to take my hide,
To tell their children how i died.
They'll hang me up and smirch my skin,
And go to play when the new game begins.
They don't care that I live and feel,
My life is done, my fate is sealed.

I run and i run, i hide and i duck,
Praying i have just a bit of luck.
I wade through a river and climb up the bank,
My head dropped down, my spirit sank.
They're closer now, i can feel their breath,
Raising the hairs on the back of my neck.
I'll be hung on a wall for all to see
That nothing at all is left of me.

And the End.
