LIMA - An Olympic silver medallist and a World Wrestling Federation star will be appearing at an April health and fitness show in downtown Lima.

Lea Ann Parsley and Al Snow will both make presentations and sign autographs at the Health and Fitness Expo, sponsored by The Lima News, at Veterans Memorial Civic Center on April 14.

Bill Clinger, marketing director for The Lima News, said he was seeking athlete speakers whose message would fit well with the expo.

Parsley, a silver medallist in the sledding sport of skeleton, will speak about her sport, which made a resurgence at the Salt Lake Games. Clinger said some skeleton sleds will be brought in for the talk.

"She will be there to meet people and sign autographs and talk a little bit about her experiences with the Olympics, her whole health and fitness routine," Clinger said.

Lima native and WWF wrestler Al Snow, 38, will also speak about fitness as it relates to his professional career, Clinger said. Snow, will also be signing autographs for those attending the event.

Parsley's agent Keith Kreiter said the medal winner has been sought after for personal appearances.

"She's a local hero and her story is rather captivating. Not many people have accomplished what she's accomplished," Kreiter said. "Prior to winning her medal, she had a partial tear of her hamstring."

Kreiter said Parsley remains "grounded" though she has achieved some fame and success. "She's given back to the community since her return," he added. Granville, Ohio, is Parsley's home town.

There will be about 50 booths at the event, featuring healthy food, exercise equipment, massage therapy demonstrations and health screenings. There will also be various forums and discussions on arthritis, diabetes, adult and child nutrition, strength and conditioning and sports injury protection.

There will also be gymnastic, weightlifting and martial arts demonstrations, as well as interactive aerobics and other interactive sessions. Contests will be held in weightlifting and overall fitness. There will be activities and programs geared toward children.

The expo is sponsored by Lima Memorial Hospital, Subway and the Lima YMCA.

WWF star cancels appearance at expo

By BETH L. JOKINEN

LIMA - Local World Wrestling Federation star Al Snow has been forced to cancel his appearance at the upcoming Health and Fitness Expo at Veterans Memorial Civic Center.

Snow was expected to make a presentation and sign autographs at the April 14 show. Bill Clinger, marketing director at The Lima News, one of the event sponsors, said Snow cancelled Wednesday because he has to appear at an event in California the same weekend.

"One of his tag team wrestling partners broke his finger and cannot do the event. By contract, Al has to fill in," he said.

Clinger said event organizers are looking at other options, but believes it may be difficult to find someone at this late notice. Lea Ann Parsley, an Olympic silver medallist in the sledding sport of skeleton, is still scheduled to appear.

"We were excited about Snow being at the expo, but the event is still going to be a very successful event. Al's presence would have just been icing on the cake," Clinger said, adding that there will be 50 booths, contests and other presentations.
