Introduction

As society is reflected in language, social change can produce a corresponding linguistics change (Trudgill, 1995). Sociolinguistics explores the close link between language and society. This area of Applied Linguistics is defined as the study of language in its social contexts and the study of social life through linguistics (Sociolinguistics: a reader, 1997, p.1).

Sociolinguistics works both ways. It helps us figure out certain aspects of the human distinguishing feature, language; and looks at language as a mirror of society. This field has brought so many changes to the way linguists  look at language .
