Adaptations of the Whale - BLUBBER!

    1. Thick insulating layers of fat (blubber)
    	- helps to preserve body heat
    	- aids in buoyancy

    2. Compact, rounded body
    	- has a smaller surface area to size ratio than a human
    	- i.e. large body mass compared to surface area
    	- this reduces heat loss

    3. Able to shunt flow of blood from extremities to concentrate on its vital
organs. This helps the whale to stay warm even under extremely cold conditions

    4. Circulatory system is a heat exchange system
    	- wraps blood vessels carrying cold blood to heart around arteries pumping
    	  warm blood away from heart
    	- prevents blood from getting too cold/hot
