When Veruca Salt Came to Town!

Veruca Salt came to San Antonio, TX to open for Bush on March 7, 1997. My best bud, Andrea took me and believe me, we weren't expecting much from the opening band. At the time, Andrea and I were really big fans of Bush. But we came early anyway. Hey, we're open-minded! We got third row, reserved seats and we had a pretty good view of the stage. The stage was small and had the cover of the Veruca Salt CD, Eight Arms To Hold You as the backdrop. There weren't many people there to see Veruca Salt so we figured they weren't all that good. In about 30 minutes, the lights dimmed and Veruca Salt walked on stage. The small crowed went nuts and everyone stood up. So, of course, we did too. Then, all of a sudden, there was an explosion of sound. It startled me and the entire crowd screamed even louder. I must admit, it was pretty exciting! Their first song was Shutterbug. Loise Post started the song by raising her hands up and quieting the audience so her whispering lyrics could be heard. It started off pretty quiet so I wasn't expecting the loud chorus of the song. It rocked! They were running up and down the platforms on either side of the stage and head banging to the music. After that, Loise Post and Nina Gordon ran to the middle of the stage and said, "All you people who came to see the opening band...YOU GUYS ROCK!!" The crowd went wild again and the band broke out into their hit, Seether. When it was time for the chorus, everyone sang, "Can't fight the Seether!" It was a lot of fun! Then, Loise said,"Hey, all you fragile gals are getting their bodies crushed in the front row here. Everyone move back and give these fragile gals some room!" Everyone moved back. Then, they did, Spiderman 79' and they would really jump around a lot on stage. People were moshing like mad! You could see people trying to climb up to the stage and the big, bad, bodyguards would throw them off. They then sang, Vicrtola, Number One Blind, All Hail Me, Straight, Awesome (Which they said was there TEAM FIGHT SONG) and they ended with , of course, Volcano Girls! When they sang Volcano Girls, they were throwing pics into the audience and people were going nuts just to get one. When they finished, they said, "Thank you all for coming! Rock on! Buy our cd! Just joking! C-ya!" Then there was a 30 minute gap before Bush came on. And man, that concert sure did last forever. I only wish Veruca Salt could've played longer.

Soak From Rockfest

I was expecting to go to the Rockfest to see only boring and mellow but talented bands. While looking at the program, I noticed a band called Soak up next. By the time they were playing, Me Compassionate, I was everywhere, jumping around! Then, the lead singer screamed in the mic, that he had staged dived once before and even though he got in trouble, he said he was going to do it again! But unfortunately, he didn't. But if he did, he probably would have been torn to shreads by wild fans. I was surprised to see he had enough energy to keep jumping around and scream in the mic so early in the morning in the hot sun. But listening to them for the 45 minutes convinced me that I had to run out and buy their new cd! The cool thing was, at the end of the show they went out and gave autographs at the Blockbuster store room. I would definetely reccomend this music to any Local H fans, Silverchair fans, and helmet. But really, I would reccomend this to anyone that likes loud rocking music!

Silverchair in Chicago!

When I heard Silverchair was coming to my hometown, I was so excited! One of my favorite bands were coming! I just had to get tickets! So three hours earlier than the time ticket sales opened up, I stood in line with my buddie, Celeste and three other teenagers stood in front of us. When the ticket booth opened up, there was about 100 people there behind us. We were so glad we had gotten there early! Maybe we could get some fairly good seats. And we did! We got general admission seats section one because there were little walls separating each section and we were in the front! WOW! Finally, the day of the concert came and we got to the colluseum early and got our T-shirts and souveneirs quickly. We got right in front! When the opening band, Water, came on, we were jumping around like crazy! They were very heavy rock! But occasionally, we'd get elbowed, crushed, or even falllen on by crowd surfers. But hey, it was worth it! Finally Silverchair came on! They opened up with Slave and it rocked! Then, the other band memebrs left the stage so I kind of figured Dan would sing Cemetery next. He did and he dedicated it to all of their fans which was pretty nice! It was very soft and mellow. Then, the other band members played, Tomorrow, Faultline, Suicidal Dreams, Isreal Son, Freak, Abuse Me, Blind, Findaway, and ended with The Closing which was pretty ironic! hehe! Over all, the concert really kicked! It was definetely worth all the trouble to get the good seats!
