 A Comparison of the residents of Dramore and Dawson's Grove, Lot 37 using the 1860 Road Commissioners map, the 1861 census and the 1863 Lakes Map.

The spelling is as found in the documents. Lakes Map and the Commissioners map are used for placement of the farms. Note it differs dramaticly from the order of census taking. The purpose of this project was to learn more about the neighbors of my gg-grandfather John Beagan and some of his daughters who married among others William McKenna, James Mullen and Patrick McDonald. This area is a prime clue as to the origins of some of the settlers. The area was first developed by the Dawsons of Cootehill, Drumgoon Parish, County Cavan. In 1802 Thomas Dawson of Cootehill bought 500 acres from George Burns, formerly of Charlottetown, in Dublin. Dawson lived at the time in the families estate in Dawsons's Grove, Cootehill, fronting the Dramore River. In all of PEI there have been 9 families identified as immigrating from Co. Cavan. The Dawsons, Beagans, McGuirks of Dramore, Rev. James Brady and his housekeeper Ann Bannon, Peter Cosgrove of Vernon River, Samuel Mitchell and Elizabeth Wood of Charlottetown and some believe the Daltons of Ft. Augustus.

The reader will note many cells are not filled in because some of my copies are missing the info. If a "-" appears in the cell it means no entry. If the cell is blank it means I don't know the info.
