Nicholas Power-Ann {Nancy} Walsh Family

by Eileen J. Power

mailto:eileenpower@hotmail.com or mailto:e_power@stmarys.ca

Nicholas Power and Ann {Nancy} Walsh (both born in Ireland?? according to Census records but their Irish origins still undetermined as Waterford Heritage could not find them) so search now geared to other Irish areas (Tyrone}etc.

NOTE: Tyrone County Heritage also unable to locate any information on them in Nov/ 1998 reply. Land records showing Nicholas Power in partnership with a William Cleary 30 years prior to land sale in 1866 on Lot 51 Baldwin's Road indicating he was there in Baldwin's Road area as early as 1836??. (Reference RG 16 Conveyances L96, f.708-710)

What was this William Cleary's link to Nicholas Power-merely a neighbor or what relationship? That land conveyance begs further research on this William Cleary and how exactly did Nicholas Power fit into this land share, which Nicholas and Anne sold in 7 years.

Residents of Lot 49 Fairville, PEI Nicholas {date and place of birth unknown) died 11 July , 1876 no death record) and Ann (Nancy) Walsh, born 1814? and died 9 May, 1896 (see death record) raised a family of seven children, 3 boys and 4 girls, most of whom were baptized in St. Joachim's Vernon River except for their two oldest, Patrick and Michael whose baptisms remain undocumented leading to speculation they may have been born in Ireland but not likely if Nicholas Power there in Baldwins Rd. area as early as 1833??

Exact birth dates for Patrick for Patrick and Michael! are therefore unavailable but from all perused census it appears Patrick was the first born in approx. 1840-1841 and Michael born 1841-1842. Their chances of birth more likely PEI T than Ireland.

Patrick is buried in St. Teresa's. PEI! in St. Cuthbert's cemetery with a stone erected by his daughter Margaret. His Power is spelled Powers (common usage by second generation in USA). A James and Patrick Malone are in the same plot, likely kin of Patrick's first wife and mother of his 5 children, namely Ann Malone of Indian River, PEI. Patrick Power and Ann Malone married in Indian River on 31 May, 1864. She was the daughter of Michael Malone and Mary (Cameron} Malone. Reference marriage book 8, pg. 149. Patrick died 29 Aug., 1895. Ann Malone died in 1878-either at Nicholas' 11's birth or short!y thereafter.

1. Patrick died 29 Aug. 1895 at age 54 and is buried in St. Teresa's as Powers with a stone erected by daughter Margaret. In the same grave are Malones. (James and Patrick}Patrick married Ann Malone (daughter of Michael Malone and Mary Cameron} in 1864 in Indian River 31 May 1864. (Reference marriage bk 8, pg 149}.
