HARVEST FESTIVAL SUPPER

A Report by Alan Watkins.

Friday Night 19th October saw a good number of the Saint Luke's Church "family" enjoying the 2001 Harvest Festival Supper at the Church Hall. The event began at 6.00pm and ended a little after 9.00pm. Three hours, in which all who attended were wined, dined and thoroughly well entertained.

Sincere thanks must go to the usual willing hands without whose efforts these events never would take place. Our thanks go to the Social Committee who made all arrangements, ensuring yet another successful event in our calendar. And to the small, yet willing band of volunteers who prepared and cooked the food at their homes and then brought it to the Church Hall for us all to enjoy - Thank you. Also, and especially, to the hand full of ladies who worked so hard and tirelessly in the kitchen for the whole of the evening serving the food and then cleaning up all of the pots, pans, plates and utensils afterwards. You are diamonds, every one! A special word of thanks to the village baker's 'Mandevilles' who made for us a really scrumptious apple pie for our dessert. Finally, here a word of thanks to the small team of workers who kept the drinks flowing without any spillage, and who really held everything together (See picture section). "Never… In the field of human enjoyment… Was… So much… Owed… By so many… To so few!"

As always we were blessed with an abundance of food, and this reporter feels sure that, given the present state of world affairs, after "grace" we all paused to think of those less fortunate than ourselves at this time, and to give special thanks to Our Lord for His blessings.

Supper over we were right royally entertained. To begin we were thrilled to hear our own young Superstar, Stephanie singing her version of 'I don't know how to love him' from the hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar. Stephanie is becoming a very fine young artiste! Following Stephanie, David Taylor on piano led our NEW up and coming Church Band. This is a group of young musicians who praise Our Lord through the abilities He has bestowed upon them. They certainly seem to enjoy playing the tunes we so enjoy singing. As you can imagine, David and 'The Band' led us in a session of "Audience Participation" - (Talk about singing for your supper!) - The chosen songs all went down very well. Finally "Top of the Bill" - Rev. John Eardley, a tall stepladder and a very unusual roll of wallpaper together with the Band led us all in singing the final song of the evening - 'We plough the fields and scatter…'

To all who worked so hard to make this evening so successful I think I can say on behalf of all who attended - Thank you very much and well done!
