DEMONS
He gently whispered in my ear
"Come here, woman, I wont hurt you"
I stepped closer
Deeper into the shadows of a dark forest
Tree branches, reaching out like claws
To tear at my flesh and hair
But I walked on, determined not to be frightened away
Coming ever closer to my whisperer, believing his words
Hoping to find a little light in the dark that surrounded me
The path grew dim
Been so long since any one had traveled this far
Had dared to come so close
Closer yet, and there he stood before me
He seemed a prince in tattered cloth
An angel with broken wings
I shivered from the cold I had felt for so long
And he wrapped me in his warm embrace
I felt the warmth spread through me
Melting the icy wall around my bitter heart
And for a time I knew love
But as the flower dies in the winter
The warmth left, and I began to feel the cold seeping in
I looked up into the eyes of my prince
And saw him changing, growing colder
I stepped away and gave him time to heal
It was too late, what was once my dream
Had become my worst nightmare
And I ran, retracing my steps back to where I had started
Behind me, he screamed
"Run, little girl, there are monsters hiding in these woods!"
