FLIGHT

You stood on the edge of a very high cliff
I had watched you for hours
As I soared among the clouds
I watched you standing on the ground
Wishing you could fly
And I spread my wings
Circling in the sky
Wanting only to wrap you in my arms
And spirit you away
From all that held you down
You raised your arms high
Holding them out to me
You stood there and waited
Begging to be free
Swooping down
Snatching you from the ledge
I tried to take you with me
I only wanted you to be happy
I thought I was stronger
I thought I could carry you higher
I found I was weak
And now I'm sorry I tried
I just couldn't hold you any longer
And my ears are still ringing
With the sound of your cries
