True Love Part 5 by: Becci

As Joey rested her head against his chest, she sighed with contentment. Her life was perfect once again. It was a feeling that usually only lasted a matter of hours, but it still felt good. She couldn't have dreamt the last few minutes. She had been so worried, but there had been no need. Dawson Leery still loved her! She had waited for this moment for 10 years, and she didn't want it to end. However, Dawson moved back a couple of steps, forcing her back to reality.

"Wow, Joey!" was all he could muster.

"I love you, Dawson," she said with a small smile.

"Yeah, that was pretty clear!" he said, smiling back. "You've definitely changed since we were kids!"

"Hey! I wasn't a kid at 15! You might have been, but I wasn't!" she said, with mock anger.

"You're right. You weren't," he said seriously, "But I was." Joey smiled, and sat down on the dock. He sat down beside her and took her hand in his. She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, then rested her head on his shoulder. They sat in silence like that for a few minutes, then Dawson spoke.

"Would you like to hear about my new movie, then?" He went on to tell Joey all about his latest script. It was a horror movie, set in an English town. He explained that all his expenses were covered, even the legal fees. He needed her help to draw up contracts, but he hoped she would help him, as well. She agreed, and she knew exactly what advice he needed, as she had done it so many times before.

As he described the location he hoped to find, she sat looking at him, only half-listening. She was enjoying hearing his voice. It was expressive and he described everything to minute detail. Suddenly, she looked at the time. 12 midday! She'd left the house five and a half hours ago! Bessie wasn't even awake when she had left. She'd be wondering where she was. Then, Joey realized that, as she was 26, Bessie probably wasn't that worried. Still, she ought to back and talk to her. Bessie had put up with a lot of unexplained events in the past few weeks.

Bessie jumped involuntarily as the door opened. It was her morning off work, and the kids were at school. She had the place to herself and was enjoying a cup of coffee. She looked up and saw her sister holding Dawson's hand. She saw the smile on Joey's face and knew what was coming. "Bess, I think we owe you an explanation," Joey said. The two sat down and described how they had met in Boston, and he had chased her here. They told her about the letters, and how he had realized he loved her still. She loved him after all these years, and they had decided to date again.

Then, they told her how they were gonna go to England for a few weeks to try and find a town suitable for the film Dawson wanted to film. They would use the weeks as a trial to see if their relationship could work after such a long break. They finally stopped talking and looked at Bessie expectantly. "Well... congratulations!" she said, genuinely pleased for her sister. After all, she deserved some happiness.

"I suppose we'd better make some plans then," Joey said sensibly. "After all, we are going to England!" Dawson phoned his parents and told them he'd be out of the country for a few weeks. He also told them that Joey would be going with him. They immediately congratulated him. He still couldn't believe it himself. After all these years, Joey and Dawson. It just sounded so perfect. He ought to tell Pacey, he realized. The two had kept in contact, but not close. However, in the past few years, they had been telling each other stuff that was important.

"Hello, Pacey Witter here," said a voice down the phone line. "I'm not here! I have a life! You know what to do."

Dawson smiled at this message. After the long beep, he took a deep breath and then began. "Hey, Pacey. It's Dawson. Just thought you'd like to know that I found Jo and we're gonna give it another shot. We're going to England to find a location, so we'll be gone a few weeks. This is it man! My big chance! Bye!"

That evening, Joey and Dawson traveled back to her Boston apartment. They had managed to book a flight for tomorrow, at lunchtime, so they had time to pack their stuff. Dawson's stuff was already being carried round in a couple of suitcases, but Joey had only the clothes she wore. When they arrived, Dawson was impressed. Joey had quite a spacious apartment in a good part of the city. Her house was elegantly furnished, and yet still had that Joey touch to it. He sat on the sofa while she went into the kitchen. "Do you want a drink?" she called to Dawson.

"Yeah, that'd be great!" he called back. "What do you want? I've got juice, squashes, coffee, tea, cocoa, beer, wine or liquor."

"Coffee will be fine, thanks. White, one sugar." At the mention of alcohol, Dawson was reminded of the time Joey had got drunk and kissed him. He had brushed it off at the time, but he had realized it wasn't the drink acting, it was the drink helping her to act. In a few moments, Joey came in with two coffees. She sat beside Dawson and gave him a mug. "So, how long have you been living here," Dawson asked, trying to spark off a conversation.

"Since my senior year at Uni." Joey said. There was a moment of silence, broken by Dawson.

"Cool," was all he could say. They sat in complete silence while they drank their coffee. Then, Joey rose.

"So, do you want me to make up the sofa for you, or do you wanna spend the night in my bed?" she asked. Dawson was stunned.

"What?" he asked cautiously.

"You heard, Dawson. You know what I mean. It's not like we're kids anymore. You must have slept with other girls." Dawson blushed slightly and squirmed in his seat. "Dawson, what's up? Oh! God! You're not a ..." Joey suddenly realized what was up.

"Yes, I am," Dawson said slowly. I never found anyone I loved as much as you, Joey." Joey sat back down, slightly shocked. Then, she leaned over and kissed him. It was a sign of love and understanding.

"I don't want to sleep on the sofa, Jo," he said.
