The Boy is Mine! by: Jeannie

Spoilers: After Lost in New York and In Company of Men

The boy is mine!

Dawson flipped off the television, he was bored watching it. Getting under his covers, he started to reflect on the past week in his life. Things had not turned out the way Dawson thought they would. Jen dumped him, and Joey kissed him. The one girl who he thought he loved decided to break his heart, and the other jumped started it again. Dawson didn't know what to do, he didn't even know who he loved anymore. All he knew was his teen romance with Jen was officially over, and his friendship with Joey was in jeopardy. Dawson leaned back against his pillows, and let his mind shift. First he thought about Jen's face on the docks when she told him she needed time, then to Joey's face before and after she kissed him. Dawson told Pacey he was wrong about Joey having feelings that went beyond friendship, but he wasn't sure anymore if that was true or not. Dawson had never felt anything before, but now he wondered if he couldn't have deeper feelings for Joey too. He cared about her, but was it as a friend or as more? Dawson never in the past would have thought about a romance between him and Joey, but now he could think of nothing else. Dawson touched his lips thoughtfully and let a smile creep over his lips as he remembered Joey's kiss. It was gentle and soft, but at the same time passionate. Dawson was left feeling breathless after their kiss in detention, and came pretty close the second time that Joey had kissed him, too. Dawson enjoyed kissing Jen, but it didn't give him the same sensation Joey's kisses always gave him. Dawson sighed to himself trying to make sense of his life, if he even could. Life had become too complicated, and Dawson didn't know what he was feeling anymore for either female in his life. Dawson decided to stop analyzing the situation, and just roll over and go to sleep. Turning out his light, he laid in the dark staring at the ceiling. Dawson realized getting to sleep was going to be harder than he thought, so he switched on the radio beside his bed. Late at the night the radio station he listened to always did requests. Dawson listened to the requests from the couples as his eyelids started to droop, and his head fell towards the side. Dawson was soon fast asleep, and dreaming peacefully.

Dawson's dream sequence:

Dawson was in a dark room with candles lit all around him. Dawson peered through the candlelight and called out, "Is anybody here?"

All of the sudden, Jen appeared dressed in a sexy short red dress that dipped low in the front, and crisscrossed in the back. Dawson's eyes widened as Jen stepped closer to him, moving her hips provocatively from side to side. Dawson's eyes surveyed Jen's dress and he said, "Wow, Jen you look gorgeous. What are you doing here?"

Jen smiled seductively pressing herself close to Dawson, and said, "I came to keep you company, Dawson. Don't you want me here?"

"NO, he doesn't." said a voice as Jen and Dawson looked up. Dawson's mouth dropped open, almost to the floor when he saw who it was. Standing only a few feet away from him was Joey, and she looked incredible. Joey had a long black dress on with a huge slit up both sides that ended at her thigh. The bodice of the dress was heart shaped, and the back was cut away exposing skin to her lower back. Joey had her hair curled around her face, and she was wearing makeup. Joey sauntered up to Dawson while Dawson continued to let his eyes drift up and down her dress. Dawson felt his heart race, as Joey leaned in and whispered in his ear, "So what do you think Dawson?"

Dawson started stuttering and stumbling over his words as he said, "God Jo, you look more beautiful than I ever imagined."

Joey smiled at Dawson before turning to face a very angry and jealous Jen.

Joey: Umm, can I talk to you for a minute?

Jen: Sure. You know, you look kinda familiar.

Joey: Yeah, you do, too. But, umm, I just wanted to know, do you know somebody named…you know, you know his name.

Jen: Oh, yeah, definitely, I know his name!

Joey: Well, I just wanted to let you know, he's mine.

Jen: Heh! Oh no, he's mine!

Jen gave Joey a satisfied smug look, and wrapped her arms around Dawson. Joey pushed Jen away from Dawson still glaring at her while the chorus began singing:

Chorus:

You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine

Joey crossed her arms in front of her as she squared off with Jen. Circling Jen she started to sing.

Joey: I think it's time you got this straight
Let's sit and talk face to face
There is no way you could mistake
Boy, oh man, are you insane?

Jen sized Joey up, and then sneered realizing she was no competition. Jen pointed to Dawson to come, and he did, confused at what was going on. Jen wrapped her arms around Dawson's waist and started to sing.

Jen: See I know you may be
Just a bit jealous of me
Cause you're blind if you can't see
That his love is all in me

Joey's eyes boiled over as she watched Jen hang on Dawson like an overcoat. Joey once again pushed Jen off of Dawson, and stepped in front of him. Jen backed off but still smirked over the rise she got out of Joey. Joey gazed at Dawson for a second before turning to face Jen again.

Joey: See I tried to hesitate
I didn't want to say what he told me
He said without me he couldn't make
Through the day, ain't that a shame

Jen glanced at Dawson, who was looking at them both, before blowing him a kiss. Jen walked up to Joey hands on hips and started to sing.

Jen: And maybe you misunderstood
Plus can't you see how he could
Wanna take time and that's all good
All of my love was all it took

Joey placed her hands on her hips, too, as they stood nose to nose glaring at one another. Joey knocked Jen flat on her butt as the chorus started to sing.

Chorus:

You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine

Jen picked herself off the ground and brushed herself off. Jen then smiled at Joey, and walked over to Dawson. Dawson looked at Jen concerned as she came closer, and Jen opened her arms for a hug. Dawson took Jen in his arms as her lips had a smug smile on them. Holding onto Dawson she started to sing.

Jen: Must you do the things you do
You keep on acting like a fool
You need to know it's me not you
But if you didn't know it, girl it's true

Joey looked upset and Dawson rushed to comfort Joey. Joey hugged Dawson, and leaning in touched her forehead to his. Joey softly kissed Dawson and started to sing.

Joey: I think that you should realize
I'm trying to understand why
He is part of my life
I know it's killing you inside

Jen, angry now, pulled to be between Joey and Dawson. Jen elbowed Joey out of the way, and kissed Dawson passionately on the lips. Jen then turned to Joey, and started to sing.

Jen: you can say what you wanna say
What we have you can't take
From the truth you can't escape
I can tell the real from the fake

Joey smiled at Dawson as he eagerly came forward to welcome her in his arms. Joey put her arms around Dawson's neck as they swayed to the music that was surrounding them. Joey laid her head on Dawson's shoulder, and seeing Jen seething started to sing.

Joey: When will you get the picture
You're the best in the future
Get away, it's my time to shine
If you didn't know the boy is mine

Dawson and Joey continued to dance with their bodies pressed close together. Jen pouted from the side watching distastefully trying to think of a way to win Dawson's affections back. An idea formed in her head, and a smile played on her ruby red lips while the chorus sang.

Chorus:

You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine

Joey stared intently into Dawson's deep blues eyes, as he held her close. Joey was completely in love, and from the looks of it so was Dawson. Joey didn't think anything could put out the fire between them until Jen poured a bucket of ice cold water on them. Joey surprised and outraged broke away from Dawson's embrace. Joey watched as Jen triumphant over breaking them up started to wipe the front of Dawson off. Jen caressed Dawson's chest leaning closer into him. Jen smiled sweetly at a love sick Dawson as she taunted Joey and started to sing.

Jen: Can be sure this love I've found
Simply gave him a new round
The boy is mine without a doubt
He might as well come in up top

Dawson, still wet but more concerned for Joey's health, handed her the towel, so she could wipe herself off. Smiling deeply at her he wrapped the towel around her shoulders, and brought her closer to him. Joey's eyes searched the depths of Dawson's soul as she started to sing.

Joey: What makes you think that he wants you
When I'm the one that brought him to
Special places in my heart
It was my lovin' from the start

Dawson leaned down and kissed Joey deeply. Joey responded by wrapping her arms around Dawson's neck. When the kiss ended, Joey pulled away but Dawson pulled her closer again. Looking at the reflecting pools of blue, Joey realized Dawson did love her too. Joey smiled as Dawson caressing her face softly pulled her in for a longer kiss. Joey and Dawson kept kissing and enjoying their new found romance while Jen sulked pitifully from the side knowing Dawson had made his choice.

*Dream sequence ends as the chorus plays one more time*:

You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine

The boy is mine
You need to give it up
Had about enough
The boy is mine

It's not hard to see
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine

You need to give it up
(not yours)
had about enough
(not yours)
it's not hard to see
(not yours)
the boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine

Dawson's eyes fluttered open as he sat up in bed. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he thought about his dream. For the first time in weeks, Dawson Leery knew what he wanted. Getting out of bed he got dressed with a huge smile on his face. Dawson climbed out the window, and walked to the dock. Getting in his spare rowboat, Dawson started rowing. Dawson started to hum something under his breath as he thought about how to tell a certain, "too tall best friend, from the wrong side of the creek" he was in love with her. Rowing along happily, Dawson's humming got louder until you could make out the song, "the boy is mine."

The end!

Okay guys, this is just a fun piece. I didn't expect high praise for this writing, and I do write serious stories, too. I just decided to have some real fun, so enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it. The song by the way is not mine, it is The Boy is Mine by Monica and Brandy.

Feedback is very much appreciated, matter of fact I live for it, so please if you have something to say write back. I make a great pen pal if you are interested.
