Disclaimer: You guys know the drill. I don't own any of them. The DC characters (Joey, Dawson, Pacey, and Jen) are property of WB, and Kevin Williamson. The Buffy characters (Buffy, Xander, Willow, Angel, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, Druscilla, and Spike) belong to the brainchild of Joss Whedon. I am just having fun, and obsessed with both shows. I am just borrowing them, and swear there is no money hands exchanging hands. All I want is your feedback so I know how you felt about my story! I don't own the song by Sarah McLachlan, either.

  Transition

Building a mystery
You come out at night
That's when the energy comes
And the dark's side light
And the vampires roam
You strut your rasta wear
And your suicide poem
And a cross from a faith that died
Before Jesus came
You're building a mystery

You live in a church
Where you sleep with voodoo dolls
And you won't give up the search
For the ghosts in the halls
You wear sandals in the now
And a smile that won't wash away
Can you look out the window
Without your shadow getting in the way?

The bus pulled to a stop; it was at its final destination. Passengers aboard started to filter out, one by one they stepped off the bus. One girl in particular stepped out into the bright light, the sun glinting off her blonde hair. It was a quaint postcard perfect town, she observed from behind her black banded sunglasses. Removing her sunglasses, her eyes finally adjusted to the light. She read in rapt attention the sign that disclosed her location. Her hazel eyes traveled over the carved edge wood letters. She stood there in the sunshine making sense that after much searching and loss, she was finally free and out of the danger that lurked about her. A deep smile curved on her crimson lips. Blinking her eyes to the tranquil surroundings thoughtfully said out loud, "Capeside, here I come!" Slinging her oversized shoulder bag on her slender but strong shoulder started into the bright clear blue. Walking away, her eyes shifted and a sense of freedom showered over her.

You're so beautiful
With an edge and charm
But so careful
When I'm in your arms

Dawson stood leaning against his locker. All morning before his debarkation to school, he had contemplated rather painstakingly whether today would be a pronounced good day or bad day. Dawson had not seen Joey, which could classify it as a bad day, but also not seeing Joey could be a godsend. Considering meeting Joey would leave Dawson open, to verbally discuss a subject he wasn't sure he was ready to approach yet. A talk that would no doubt present him with more confusion, and heartache. Dawson decided his safest bet for deciding the fate of the rest of his day would be the toss of a simple coin. After all, Dawson doubted his chances could be more inaccurate than just waiting to see for himself. Flipping the coin, it landed to the cement with a slight ping noise. Dawson picked it up, and sighed. Holding it tightly in his palm thought miserably, "just my luck."

Cause you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully
You woke up screaming aloud
A prayer from your secret god
You feed off our fears
And hold back our tears, oh
Give us a tantrum
And a know it all grin
Just when we need one
When the evening's thin
You're a beautiful
A beautiful man
You're setting up your razor wire shrine

Joey bit her lip. Her eyes had been fixated on the one person she cared the most about, Dawson. Joey felt a sudden release of butterflies in her stomach as she saw him look her way. Dawson unaware of Joey standing leaning against the wall opposite his locker just sighed again. Joey slowly let out the breath that had caught in her throat over the prospect Dawson recognized her. Joey did not know if she was quite ready to face him, and wanted to stand in the shadows until she made her decision. For the last few minutes, Joey's mind toyed with the idea of just walking up to him, but her nerves would come unraveled when she started to move. Joey silently kicked herself for choosing this moment to turn coward. Everything was very muddled, and Joey did not know what was going on. It took all her self-restraint from just not breaking down in tears at the mere thought; she was just prolonging the inevitable. Joey's eyes lowered, and her heart thudded loudly as her decision was made for her. Joey raised her head accepting defeat, and distastefully watched Jen stroll up to Dawson. Joey felt sick when Jen leaned in and smiled brightly at him. Dawson gave Jen a small-preoccupied smile. Joey felt her stomach lurch when Jen placed her hand on his arm, and they walked away. Joey no longer fighting the tears leaned in to the wall, and pitiful blamed herself for letting him slip through her fingers. Joey bitterly wallowing in her grief said, "yep…today's going to be a very bad day."

Pacey rode his bike to the Icehouse. Pacey had just experienced an exhausting day at school, and just wanted to escape. Riding his bike along enjoyed the peaceful happenings of town. Pacey not often considered sentimental whispered, "For being a small town, this place isn't half bad. Of course it's the epitome of dull, but being the town lose I think stir up some trouble." A wicked smile gleamed as he said, "Just look how I ruffled everyone's feathers with the alleged affair with my English teacher." Pacey's smile vanished when he thought of his beloved Tamara. Pacey really did care for his old lover, Tamara. More than anyone could have ever known, and more than he ever wanted to mention outside the confines of his own heart. Pacey knew how the town viewed him, he did not live in a bubble like Dawson It was obvious they considered him a worthless waste of skin. Pacey always thought no better of himself. That was until she walked into his life. Pacey could still remember that day like it was yesterday. In she walked. The fabric of the short dress clinging to her shapely legs as she walked, her blue eyes sparkling, and her long blonde hair shining under the lights. Her smile was warm, and it radiated straight to Pacey's heart. There was something about her and at first he couldn't place his finger on it, but now he fully understood. Tamara was his angel; sent here to show him he could be better than what people assumed he was. Tamara showed him deep inside he was more than a wise cracking fool. Pacey was an intelligent, kindhearted, honorable man who should stand proud. "Tamara gave me more than she ever knew she did. God I wish I could have given her the world, I know she did not deserve any less. I miss her. Wherever she is…I wish her love, happiness, and peace. Goodbye Tammy", Pacey thought to himself. Pacey so oblivious and drawn into his thoughts did not pay attention to where he was going. It was not until a very irate female voice spoke that he returned to his senses.

"Hey, watch it!"

Pacey, realizing, he almost ran over someone started to apologize, "I'm sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going."

The girl removed her sunglasses, and pulled them back onto top her head. Giving him a satisfactory smirk said, "Obviously. I mean look at how you almost ran over me. You gave me a big set of the wiggins. Jeez where did you learn to drive that thing? Didn't anyone ever teach you not to come charging at a person like that. You need to get some riding lessons cause you obviously don't know how to operate that thing."

Pacey mouth open gawked at the girl in front of him. Pacey could not speak; he was too busy mesmerized by this gorgeous stranger. She was petite with a curvy figure. Her hazel eyes sparkled like deep emeralds, and her lips pursed together in a pout. Her lips were cherry red, and curved in a slight smirk as she caught him looking at her. She tossed her long blonde hair over her shoulder, and it caught the sunlight making it shine like gold. Pacey tried tearing his eyes from giving her the once over, and calming his raging hormones that were waging war for control of his body. Pacey trying to remain his composure flashed her a smile and muttered, "I am truly sorry for our near fatal collision. I wasn't pay attention to where I was going. I was lost in my own world, something very unlike me I might add. I hope you find it in your heart to accept my apology." Pacey watched as her ruby lips curved in an amused smile before saying, "well ok…you're off the hook this time. Just remember to keep your eyes opened next time, or else I won't go so easy on you next time."

Pacey fought the urge to say, "you promise." Pacey feeling excited said, "So are you new to Capeside? I would remember seeing someone as unforgettable as you before. A vision of beauty is something that does not go unnoticed by me."

Laughter filled the air as she said, "somehow I don't doubt that…"

Pacey extended his hand, "I'm Pacey…Pacey Witter. And you would be?"

The smile left her face, and her eyes clouded over. "Leaving…I just remembered I have to go do something…something well not near her. Therefore, I am leaving to go somewhere, uh away. Nice to meet you, Pacey. Bye!"

Pacey, disappointed, tried one more attempt. "Well, since you are new…why don't you let me escort you to where ever you have to go. C'mon it's the least I can do for almost mowing you down."

Pacey gave her his boyish but suave smile, and even taking lessons from Dawson, flashed her puppy dog eyes. The smile returned to her face. "You're right I am new to town…I'm just passing through. Uh, yes, I do not need any help. I can make it on my own, but thanks again for the offer. You know somebody should warn you that those eyes are weapon…they are too deep. Bye!"

Pacey blushed slightly unsure what she meant by that, but liking it just the same. Calling out, "If you ever change your mind…just look for me. I know I will never forget you." A short wave was the only response he got. Pacey rode off. Pacey's eyes lit up at the mere thought of how beautiful she was. Laughing and shaking his head thought, "That girl was hot. I wonder who she was. Well maybe Capeside won't be so dull after all." Pacey continued onto the Icehouse smiling. His thoughts of Tammy suddenly replaced by this new mysterious but enticing stranger.
